Name Change for Fiancee

Hi all,

My Fiancee wants to change her first name when she gets to the states since she has a chinese name and wants her english nickname as her legal first name.

Can someone who's gone thru the process confirm if we have our steps correct. We're hoping can get the court order name change complete before our 90 days are up for her K1 visa.

1. When my fiancee arrives in the US we will go apply for her replacement social security card. She was already issued one when she was here years before on F1 visa.

2. Wait for SSN card and file a change of name app with LA or Orange county courthouse for judges approval to get first name legally changed. Hopefully this won't take more then 4-6 weeks to complete

3. Make appointment with local county clerk office for marriage certificate ceremony. We can then file with the new legal first name, middle name and marriage last name since we have the court ordered name change.

4. After marriage file the AOS package, include photocopy of name change court order, and use the new full name on all forms

5. After receiving GC/EAD card go back to SSA office and file a change of name for a new replacement card that shows the new name

6. Go to Malaysian consulate to file change of name form to update the passport
