And lo the Lord came down amongst them and made them eat of spoiled pork and tainted mayonnaise.

The crowd was loving it so not sure how Fox News was getting their panties in a bunch. Guess it is just because they're Fox News. It can't be easy trying to find actual news 24/7.

Easter? Just another opportunity to bash Christians. Easter egg hunts cause egg fart anyway, right? So it seems:

As always, there are quite a few opinions out there as to whether todays' youth is skeptical, disinterested, or actually embracing religion.

Survey: 72% of Millennials 'more spiritual than religious'

Most young adults today don't pray, don't worship and don't read the Bible, a major survey by a Christian research firm shows.
If the trends continue, "the Millennial generation will see churches closing as quickly as GM dealerships," says Thom Rainer, president of LifeWay Christian Resources. In the group's survey of 1,200 18- to 29-year-olds, 72% say they're "really more spiritual than religious."
Among the 65% who call themselves Christian, "many are either mushy Christians or Christians in name only," Rainer says. "Most are just indifferent. The more precisely you try to measure their Christianity, the fewer you find committed to the faith."
Key findings in the phone survey, conducted in August and released today:
•65% rarely or never pray with others, and 38% almost never pray by themselves either.
•65% rarely or never attend worship services.
•67% don't read the Bible or sacred texts.
Many are unsure Jesus is the only path to heaven: Half say yes, half no.

Why Millennials May Show Disinterest to Christianity?
Although there are millennials who are fervent in their faith and who know why they accept Christianity as a belief system these are the exceptions. There are three central reasons that require mitigation. Communicating Christianity effectively, Competing Belief Systems and Genuine Experience are three core areas that must be understood in order to connect with millennials and to provide the opportunity to impact their lives permanently with the gospel message.
1.Communication of Christianity as a belief system whereby we explain Christianity in a manner that makes sense using the mountains of evidence, historical, archaeological and scientific to present Christianity is essential. The truth is Christianity is so easy to believe after looking at the evidence the leap of faith required is very small. We haven't explained Christianity well. There are two models used to explain Christianity.
A. The Subjective Based Model widely used by which we share our subjective experiences or testimony. This method does not provide a point of reference for millennials to verify if indeed the claims are true or not. However this method is viable and works effectively among those who are already converted to bring encouragement but not as effective when initially presenting Christianity as a belief system.
B.The Evidence Based Model whereby primary, secondary and tertiary evidence is provided and brings any honest person to the point of decision based on evidence presented. This model is known as Christian apologetics and used by the historical 1st century Church. You will notice the evidence based model as you read the New Testament and pay attention to the terms "eyewitness, eyewitnesses, we were eyewitnesses to.." Disciplines such as Archeology, History, Astronomy, Jewish Studies and Natural Sciences are separate disciplines that support bible claims and when explored give peace of mind to adherents of Christianity but also to those of other belief systems who seek an objective scholarly study of the Christian Bible. Apologetics which means a defense of the faith, to defend a position, to persuade, providing evidence sufficient to bringing a trial from an arraignment stage to a full blown trial.
2. Competing Belief Systems that crowd the market place of belief systems such as Buddhism for example which has become the “cosmopolitan religion” in the United States because it is the only belief system perceived to have no associations with religious wars, perceived to be totally passive and to have “no edge” to it, a means of total escape from a stressful life. Those who explore Buddhism perceive all other belief systems to require some form of stress, commitment and a requirement to give of your self. Buddhism is conveyed as having a mechanism that gives instead of having to give.
Buddhism is fueled by America’s desire to meet that inner need to feel better inside as opposed to self denial that they perceive is required by other religions. Buddhism also fits well and has an affinity to common culture. Buddhism's values are wide spread and its values are cited in sports, social events and medicine. Buddhist values are also cited in social movements such as feminism, peace movements, food industry, vitamin industry, Human Resources department programs and even animal rights movements. Christianity doesn't fit the culture of secular industries plus has exclusive claims such as "I am the door..I am the way..no man comes to the Father but by me."
3. Genuine Experience that comes after verification. After establishing the belief system follows logically, can be verified using history, archeology and natural science as supporting disciplines then it is imperative for deep satisfaction of heart to follow to achieve generational longevity. God wants both our hearts and minds to be satisfied regarding the Christian belief system. There shouldn't be lingering, nagging questions especially when the answers are available. There must be strong enough intellectual impact to move a millennial to make the principles of Christianity a way of life and philosophy for life. Millennials cannot see how Christianity as a belief system can satisfy all of their life's demands to include sex, dating, marriage, career, finances and relationships. The truth is mankind is a spiritual being as well as a social being because he possesses a spirit and soul. Consequently there is an area in our lives that only God can fill and a specific area that only others or community can fill. We communicate one or the other instead of each having its rightful place. We have not communicated or explained Christianity well but we have the information needed to make improvements.
In summary it is essential to explain Christianity well using all available evidence, answering any questions standing in the way of understanding the gospel message. The heart commitment to Jesus Christ should be easy and a very tiny leap of faith if the millennial's heart and mind is satisfied. Recognize there are many eloquent presentations of other belief systems competing for the hearts and minds of every millennial. We have no choice but to be more eloquent, more knowledgeable, engage critical thinking, connecting the dots, convinced Christianity as a belief system is flawless passing every test and excellent in our presentation. We must be aware there are competing belief systems and manage this information with honesty, confidence and excellence. The millennial must experience a genuine conversion that can only be accomplished by the Holy Spirit. Heart felt intercession must precede and accompany the gospel message so that there is a genuine heart experience. Finally know that you can recruit reinforcements such as subject experts who can help you with information, prayer and modeling the Christian life if you feel inadequate. I am all in and I hope UR2!

good thing it's not an opinion, there are folks who actually study this sort of thing for a living. 'social science' i mean can you imagine?

of course there are religious millennials, i was merely pointing out that the tide is appearing to turn for a bit. these kids may have the attention spans of fleas but they've still got the ability to reason. praise jeebuz.

I've learned by now and it's becoming again quite obvious that it is too much to expect any sense of context or reality from FOX News and it's sheep-like following.

Fact is that they could have easily focused on what preceded the very comment they ripped out of the speech and now so hysterically freak out about. But then there wouldn't be anything to freak out about but the realization that while they call themselves Christians, they act anything but.

Through God’s mercy, Peter the Apostle said, we are given “an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you.” It’s an inheritance that calls on us to be better, to love more deeply, to serve “the least of these” as an expression of Christ’s love here on Earth.

That’s the spirit we feel in the example of His Holiness, Pope Francis, who encourages us to seek peace, to serve the marginalized, and be good stewards of God’s creation. Like millions of Americans, I’m honored that we will be welcoming him to our country later this year.

I want to quote him. He says that we should strive “to see the Lord in every excluded person who is thirsty, hungry, naked; to see the Lord present even in those who have lost their faith… imprisoned, sick, unemployed, persecuted; to see the Lord in the leper -- whether in body or soul -- who encounters discrimination.”

Isn’t that how Jesus lived? Isn't that how He loved? Embracing those who were different; serving the marginalized; humbling Himself to the last. This is the example that we are called to follow -- to love Him with all our hearts and mind and soul, and to love our neighbors -- all of our neighbors -- as ourselves. As it says in the first letter of John, “Let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.”
