Questions about checklist items for CR1 visa application

Hi folks,

I am applying for a CR1 visa, and have received the NVC welcome letter(s). I have a few questions about items in the checklist attached to the welcome letter.

1. My wife (the petitioner) and I (the applicant) received two identical lists, one addressed to me and one to her. We assume that we need to submit only one package, not two packages (one filled out by me and one by her). Is this correct?

2. My understanding is that items in the "financial documents" list are required of the petitioner, and items in the "supporting documents" list are required of the applicant. Is this correct? (That means, the applicant does not have to have "IRS Tax transcript" listed only in "financial documents", and the petitioner does not have to have "police certificates" listed only in "supporting documents".)

3. What does the last item "photocopies" in "supporting documents" mean?

Answers:

• Only one package is needed.
• Your understanding is correct.
• The NVC only requires photocopies of documents, originals are to be brought to the interview. Furthermore, since your case will be going through the Consulate on Montreal, the package can be scanned and emailed to the NVC.

One follow up: how do we know when to submit the AOS package? Is there some kind of automatic notice in the payment portal, or the NVC would email/write to us?

You log onto ceac.state.gov using your case number and IIN. Pay the AOS fee, print out the document cover page and send it with all your documents and the I-864 form to the address on the cover sheet. No need to wait, you send it as soon as your AOS is paid.
