You don't oppress anything. You guarantee equal rights. Its what the US had to do with African Americans and its what's going to have to happen with homosexuals. Some folks don't want to give up their prejudices and the have to be forced with laws. This exact conversation happened with white owners not wanting to serve or allow blacks into their stores. Our laws forced them to and we're all better for it.

Right now, US law does not allow for employers or business to discriminate against homosexuals. However, US law also allows for the public to have an opinion about homosexuals whether they support it, or disagree with it.

So, what's the problem other than the left who want to oppress those who disagree?

my thinking on this is that the world is a very different place than when we were going through jim crow and school segregation. now we have the internet, social media. and i think that these tools give reason and equality the upperhand. i believe this upperhand can be used to effect social change much more effectively than forcing laws. i do believe that laws are needed for larger businesses, corporations because these entities are generally excluded from the repercussions of public shame and exclusion.

Roundabouts/rotaries are everywhere in Mass. But you're right, most peeps have no idea how to handle them. It took my wife a while to get up the courage, but she learned that just stepping on the gas is the best way to go about it.

there are two or three in my neck of the woods, but over the mountain they're popping up more and more. it's funny to see people go from utter confusion to pure rage in 3 seconds flat, everyone starting to move but lurching to a stop in a circle..

Its not oppressing someone to force them to treat all humans equally, lets get that straight now.

Maybe there needs to be a law similar to those enacted to help former slaves be treated as equals.

Yeah, I'm really not getting how one equates hatred and racism towards others as freedom of choice.

Other than those who are victims of crime in America, exactly who are these former slaves of which you speak? Also, how does one create a law that forces the public to treat everyone the same? Then, how does one enforce it?

Leave all personal opinions at the door making sure you collect a ticket so that you can get them back when you leave.

It's apparent the other poster lacks comprehension of how the legal system works in our country.

It's not illegal to be racist or to have homophobe thoughts. It's illegal however to act on those thoughts in a manner that contravenes the law.

Hating someone is not a crime. Acting towards others with hatred or in a hateful manner however, oftentimes is.

We need an updated copy of this :

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Civil_Rights_Act_of_1964

to include sexual orientation. That way we'll all know what the boundaries are. Check out who the naysayers were to this bill. Weird huh?

It should be pretty clear right now that those posting are interested in mind control. Yes, it's arrived and living right here in this thread. Mind police.

A person's beliefs are generally tolerated until they infringe on the rights of others.

Whose fault is it that some extremists not only want their right to hold bigoted views to be acknowledged by others but actually want to be protected when they exercise them to the detriment of others' rights?

It says something about the issue that the title of this thread appears to suggest that the rights of a race hate organisation should be protected above the rights of one of their victims.
