My husband received his packet today, however it's a white envelope that says do not open. How does he get his passport if he cannot open the packet?

Here is a picture of it.. http://i61.tinypic.com/1zq7gol.jpg

boxcutter, razorblade, or scissors.

there should be an immigrant summary sheet attached to the outside - make a scan of that, email it to the two of you - it has data you'll need later, and it picked up at the POE.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

The papers that were attached just told us how to make the payments for the Greencard.. and for him to bring his xray disk and to apply for his green card at POE.

na - look again - should be instructions with a URL for ELIS there. no one pays at the POE to receive the greencard - it's all done online. don't sweat it, you've a year past POE date to pay the fee for the green card and even then - the stamp given at the POE turns the VISA FOIL into a 1 year temporary I-551 document, a type of green card.

Was there an outer clear plastic courier wrapper? Usually that outer wrap holds the passport and sealed envelope. The passport wouldn't be inside the sealed envelope. Edited by Nich-Nick

He should've got the passport handed back separately with the Visa in it. Don't open the sealed envelope with the warning on.

The photo in the op really does look very strict about not opening that envelope. I think the op should call the embassy.

In the United Kingdom the visa is not handed back separately. The DX Secure courier hands you ONE plastic package which has the delivery address on it. You open it and find a passport and a Do Not Open white envelope.inside. The OP either threw away the passport in the wrapper or the courier forgot to package it up.

The embassy told us to open the white envelope to get the passport, and the visa packet should also be inside and that's the part that should not be opened.
