Hi, so I am a U.S. born citizen, but my fiance is a Mexican citizen. We met here in Austin in December of last year while she was visiting relatives. So, I proposed in February, hoping for a wedding in August. The only issue is, she has to go back to Mexico shortly after to finish her last semester of Med. School shortly after the wedding, and I have to leave to go back to school in Idaho. So, my question is this: is there any way for us to get married in August? If so, which is the fastest/cheapest?

Thanks in advance.

Are you planning marriage in US? Or Mexico?

Are you planning a big wedding or simple civil marriage?

Do you make sufficient income (at least $20k per year)) to sponsor her visa (if you are a student)?

What's the rush to get married if you guys still have education to complete yet

and what income will you live off of?

Go to the courthouse and speak to a Justice of the Peace officer. I don't know what the laws are in Texas regarding timelines.

You will have to apply for a Spousal Visa (CR-1) if you get married.

EDIT: Read this - http://www.usmarriagelaws.com/search/united_states/texas/

Just google darling, everything is available online :)

Another question I have is about her green card. When would she be able to start living with me?

I think the spouse visa is taking about ~12 months and it's little bit cheaper than fiancee visa.

Also, my understanding is that if she can make it to US legally (which I presume she has a way

if you are planning to get married in US) and you guys get married, then she can stay in US during your processing.

(Those going through the spouse visa can confirm these facts.)

Personally, I grew up with philosophy that after I graduate from college,

I shouldn't burden my parents financially...

so I planned my life accordingly to what I can afford.

The cheapest way to get married is at the court by Justice of Peace.

My entire cost was under $250...and then you can have a moderate reception

with close families and friends (that you can afford without financially burdening the parents too much).

There was a research report few months ago that showed correlation between

high cost wedding and high rate of divorce. :D
