Hi everyone,

I am looking for a little advice or consolation. The Texas Service Center received my petition August 25, 2014 (NOA1 was dated August 27, 2014). I haven't heard anything since then. According to the USCIS site, our case was last "touched" December 9th. I know that we are still technically within the normal processing times, but the anxiety is starting to grow.

I met my fiance, who is Cuban, last spring when I was studying abroad in Havana. We had been together for 6 months (3 physically together and 3 long distance) when I submitted the petition. I read that processing can take longer if the beneficiary is from a country with a high fraud rate like Cuba, so I am wondering if that is why it is taking so long? We also have an 8 year age difference (I am 23 and he is 31), which I am concerned could be misinterpreted as something suspicious.

I would appreciate feedback. Hopefully I am just worrying too much.

You are not alone. They haven't finished August yet, plenty of people still waiting.

And a 8 year difference is really nothing.

Unfortunately you'll have to wait with the rest of us poor sods stuck in TSC hell.

Hopefully you'll hear something by the end of the month.

Unfortunately you're still in normal processing time. When the next USCIS processing time update is released, hopefully you will be past normal processing time. That will be in about 3 weeks. If you haven't gotten NOA2 yet, you can then put in an inquiry with USCIS, contact the USCIS ombudsman and your representatives to try to get some action on your petition.

It is not true about processing can take longer if the beneficiary is from a country with a high fraud rate like Cuba. My petition from USCIS was approved in 15 days. I know one person who approved with 20 years age differences at the US interest section in Havana. My husband who has the same age as me got his visa denied at the US interest section in Havana. Sometimes it is a luck, hopefully all will go smoothly for you.
