Mom hides baby in backpack at NAIA

MANILA – Authorities at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 1 discovered a 2-month-old baby stashed inside his mother's backpack Monday evening.

The still sleeping baby was discovered by security personnel after the backpack was being scanned by the x-ray machine.

Vicente L. Guerzon Jr., Assistant General Manager for Security and Emergency Services of the Manila International Airport Authority, identified the owner of the backpack as Jenifer Pavolaurea, a 25-year-old Papua New Guinean and a nursing graduate.

The 25-year-old single mother admitted that she attempted to smuggle her 2-month-old son out of the country because she does not have the necessary immigration clearance for his departure.

Pavolaurea was a departing passenger of Air Niugini, which was scheduled to depart for Port Moresby at 11 p.m.

Guerzon said Pavolaurea was initially questioned by an immigration officer for being an overstaying alien before the baby was discovered inside the backpack.

Pavolaurea was eventually allowed to depart for Papua New Guinea.

Airport authorities did not file any charges against Pavolaurea and was instead turned over to a certain John Frederick Camarines.

Mar 10, 2015 - 3pm - Received SMS saying IV Package ready for pickup at 2GO MoA. Picked up at 5pm. (Shipped/Picked Up/In Hand on 3rd Business Day post interview)

Mar 13, 2015 - CFO Manila - Done

You just can't make this stuff up. Let's see - she is a nursing student, she has a 2 month old and no mention of the whereabouts of the father, she sticks the baby in a back-pack and sends it through the x-ray scanner thinking who would think this thing is a baby, she has overstayed her own visa, doesn't have any paperwork on the baby and there is a man there that no one knows who he is or what his responsibility is. They let her get on her flight.... do you suppose immigration just didn't want to deal with the paperwork at 11 pm at night and it is probably the last flight out and they get to go home so they let her go (of course after paying all her fees and slush money)? Good reddens.

A lot of wierd stuff happens at NAIA....

3 years ago, the same day I arrived at terminal 3 NAIA....an abandoned suitcase was found on the tarmac.

The body of a dismembered woman found inside......scary!
