How romantic should the explanation of meeting letter be?

Hello Visa Community!

My fiance and I are discussing this topic before we send off our K-1 petition. He feels it should include more romantic parts of our relationship (I love that about him!) and I feel (based on being a federal employee in an investigative/auditing role) that it should clearly discuss the topics on how we met (not subject to marriage brokerage act), why we were attracted to each other, what we had to overcome to meet each other in person (a lot of stuff that I won't bore you with here), and how we stay in contact with each other.

What do you guys think? What did you guys include in your petition? Warm and fuzzy or clear and factual?

Thank you in advance for your comments!!!!

it just needs to be a brief statement of how you met in person on the I-129f form

you should include pictures , chat logs, text and anything that will help prove your relationship. If you want you can include a brief (romantic) outline of your relationship with petition

I included a brief outline of me and my wife relationship, alone with other evidence with our petition. just do not over do it

a mere sentence is sufficient. You are going way overboard. Regardless, you can include as much detail as you want. It won't hurt or help. Send them a novel if you have the time. :D

But to answer your question, facts and dates are more important than the fuzzy stuff.

ie. we met in Curtiba, Brazil on July 26, 2014 when I was studying abroad.

@ascertainLovE

I will skip the novel because I know how long TSC is already and they will keep putting my petition to the back of the line if it's too fat!

@A&B

I didn't think so! They just need to check the box...

I am a little confused about one thing, though. Some are saying to include relationship proof. I thought that had to be established during his embassy interview? I was going to include some samples of our relationship conversations now, then send him more documents during his interview so the interviewing officer had a period of time to compare.

Does the USCIS, Dept of State, or both look at the proof of valid relationship?

Since he's coming from a Muslim culture and a culture where traditions are very important and anything outside of the traditions is looked at very suspiciously - proof of relationship will be more important than ever. Check out what happened at our embassy interview in Pakistan. http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/521478-interview-from-hell/

We sent a lot of pictures and copies of text messages with our original I-129F petition. Then at the last minute before her interview, my fiancée decided that she was going to print out a bunch more pictures. I told her I didn't think it was necessary as we had already sent them so many - and since her pictures were just going to be more of the same from the one time we had met in person.

But at the end of the day, when the Embassy finally decided to approve our petition, the woman there told my fiancée that those pictures she brought played a big role. She said, 'people can fake happiness in a few pictures, but no one could fake it in this many... and you all look so happy in every single picture.'

So I don't know how many you need to send in initially, but send in more than you think you should. And then take even more to the interview! If there are any cultural reasons why the Embassy may suspect your relationship can't be real, those pictures can make a world of difference.

Oy vey, Jon! Thank you so much for that link and for sharing your story! I probably would not have come across it on my own, but it is relevant for our situation too! Awesome!

@ charlieprince - yeah, I suppose you have a point. When my love writes his version of the letter, I will make sure I will change as little as possible. It is our story and we have been through so much already and we haven't submitted the petition yet! I think I will send the story mostly as he wants to represent it (but a single page is better to me!)

My fiancee and I discussed this as well before we sent our application. Well, you have to make sure that the letter is more factual than romantic. Ours was only a page long. :D

People get confused about this all the time.

They do not want romance or a page long explanation.

They want a small statement.

For example.

I Cody met daisy at London heathrow airport on the 4th June 2013.

That's all they want.

Just you to tell them where and when you met in person for the first time.

Agreed but wouldn't it be more fun to make it romantic.

@ Hotter Otter! You killed me! LOL!

My fiance actually wants to add more notes of the sweeter parts of our relationship. I hope he doesn't want to start a romance novel out of it this time!

I really appreciate all the responses. It's so helpful to be able to compare different experiences and consider the situations because no two visa journeys are alike!

You guys are awesome!

What do you guys think? What did you guys include in your petition? Warm and fuzzy or clear and factual?

The statement of how you met in person should only be two sentences maximum and is totally factual. Just the when and where.

Save the mushy stuff for the description of your relationship needed at the interview.
