I don't know how long it takes to get the card per say, but I am sure on your passport you have an official visa stamp that serves as evidence of temporary residency while you wait for the green card. With that you could go to the DMV office an obtain a DL. You may also need to provide proove of SSN to get your DL which you can apply for one once you enter the US. Once you apply for a SSN it takes about two weeks more or less to get the card on the mail. By the way, if you have an active DL that has not yet expired from your country and your passport with you, you could drive in some states. See reciprocity for your state and see if you are allowed to drive with that or if you need an international drivers license if you desperately need to drive while you wait to obtain the one for your state.

Best,

Jorge

Hi can that same stamp be used to get employment? Does it have the permanent resident number that will be shown on the card?

I really can not tell you if the employer will accept that or not. If you enter as a resident you should be able to use it, right? You can certainly as them. I don't know about your second question. Sorry :-(

Note: i found this so i guess you can work.. See below
