You need to take a written exam first to get a learner's permit. Once you have the LP, you can take driving lessons.

Once you're ready, you can take the actual driving test. You have 3 chances to pass it to get the driver's license.

As long as you finish with DMV before March 25th, then it's not an issue.

I went to DMV by online appointment last February..I went there with my passport ,SSN and I-94..they did not accept it for the fact that my K1 visa will expire March 15th..They will only allow me to take my DMV written test if only I still have at least 60 days left before my visa will expire..they suggest that I'll just re-schedule with them if I got my EAD and NOA's for my AOS for proof that Ihave filed for my adjustment of status..so disappointing but that's their rule and we need to follow...regarding opening of Bank Account ,My husband has a Chase account too but they won't allow me having a joint account with him even if I brought our marriage contract, the bank rep told us that they will only allow if I already have my own billing statement under my name that bears a U.S. address, so what I did was I open a bank account at bank of America instead , I used my passport, ( showing in addition 2 more ID's which is my Philippine driver's license and my PRC license ) and of course My SSN,they want to see the original SSN for proof...that's it.. Good luck to you..

I went to DMV today and yes they need I-94 that at least 60 days left before it get expired. The lady told me that there's nothing they could do for me. She said I can go to the immigration to get an extension or wait for my EAD and/or Permanent Resident card. So disappointing.... on their website it only says "passport with a valid I-94", they never mentioned about the 60 days rule.....

The best rule of thumb is:

A few days after landing in the USA go to Social Security and apply for your SSN card. After submitting your application you should have your new SSN/card in your hands in about 2 weeks or less. Here is an acceptable list of documents.

Once you have your SSN/card go to your nearest DMV with your I-94, Original SSN and Passport with Birth Certificate. Some states require additional proof (see list below)

All of the steps need to be completed a few days after you arrive in the US. Don't wait or you will set yourself back by 3-5 months waiting for additional documents that now will be required.

Note: The ID's are those that are acceptable to NC. Check with your state DMV to ascertain what documents will be acceptable for your application. Your millage may vary.

State ID is a waste of time and money during the fiancée and AOS period. The expiration dates on the IDs are set to expire at the I-94 admit until date. Better to wait until GC/EAD/AP in hand then go for the state ID with all the required documents the state requires.

Disregard the OMB expiration date on the top of the I-94 print out. That is simply a date assigned by the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) for Department of Homeland Security to use that form. Has nothing to do with the individual person.
