Tell him not to be a cheapskate. He needs to send you lots of money to support you and your family.

No. How will that prove he can support you? It just proves he has some extra money right now. It does not prove his current annual income or past income which is needed for affidavit of support

No. Just have him fill out the forms and send you copies of the proof the forms ask for (tax returns, W-2s, tax transcripts, etc).

Remember that a 1040 tax return is useless without the accompanying W-2. Anybody can get a blank 1040 and fill in his own numbers. The W-2 is the slip he gets from his employer to back up the numbers he puts in there.

What is alse useful is a tax transcript. Few people actually get these, but they are good proof of income since they come from the IRS so you can't mess with them. Your fiance can download these from the IRS website and email them to you.

Does my fiance need to send me money to prove that he can support me? Thanks for your help!

He needs to show that he makes more than 125% of the poverty level as stated on the I-864P as proof that he can support you. Being from the PI, if he sends you lots of money it might look like he is buying a wife. I sent money to my then finacee, but I never sent any evidence to the USCIS. The USCIS does not care about anything other than income and/or assets to meet the threshold for your family size in being able to qualify for a visa. If he cannot meet the 125% of the poverty level, your chances of getting a K-1 visa from the PI Embassy is almost zero.

"Being from the PI, if he sends you lots of money it might look like he is buying a wife."

Really?? Where is the supporting proof of that statement? Remittances, support payments, etc, are very common. Monthly support payments (Western Union receipts, etc) can be used as evidence of an ongoing relationship. It is not required, but having supporting evidence that is never asked for is always better that being asked for evidence you did not bring.

The US Embassy in the Philippines has not even been asking for an I-134 recently.

There is no need for him to send you money to prove support. There is no where on any document that ask if he is sending you money. The proof to support meeting the 125% poverty level will be his latest tax return plus W-2's and any 1099's.

Dumbest question I've ever read. Supporting you is not just for a day or two my dear, affidavit of support means forever not unless you got divorced after having your greencard.

There's nothing in the guidelines that state - one has to send money to support them. Not unless it's the literal support for you and your family too which has been known for so long that once you marry a Filipina, the husband has to marry the family too. it's so embarrasing!

The US Embassy in the Philippines has not even been asking for an I-134 recently.

Sending money transfers isn't strong proof of a relationship. It just proves you know how to send money. In context, sending money receipts isn't necessarily a bad thing as it can help support your existing proof of relationship. On the other hand, if you don't have strong evidence of a relationship, the money transfer receipts can backfire on you and make it look like either the pinay is scamming you for the money, or the American is buying a wife (or both).

USEM may not have been asking for the I-134, but you still need to have one prepared and all supporting evidence. Even if they don't ask for it, it's better to be prepared with it in case they do.

Does your fiance know you are asking this question?

Maybe she was hoping that the answer would be "yes" so that she can get money sent to her? Maybe I am a bit cynical, but I have seen too many relationships where money is the root of all problems... Fortunately my wife never asked to send money to her and she was working overseas anyway.

I also am surprised to see so many questions on how to meet the income requirements for the Affidavit of Support. If someone is that close to the poverty levels, can they really provide (yes I am ignoring "love" here)... Marriage is expensive and struggling about money just adds to the pressures of marriage.
