DCF in London i130/CR1 Application with disabled spouse

Hi all,

I'm (US Citizen/UK Resident) getting ready to post off the i130 petition for my husband (UK citizen) to London, and I'm thinking ahead to the dreaded interview. My husband is wheelchair bound and disabled, and I'm afraid of the CO taking one look at him and deeming him likely to be a public charge regardless of how much "proof" I can bring otherwise.

His joint sponsor just meets the income requirement, and we have savings of our own (around about $8k).

Could someone please offer some tips, experiences, or calming words (lol) to help us get through this?

Also, in my i864, do I need to somehow report our little bit of savings? I have other assets in the US, but in total they wouldn't be enough to make the income requirement alone. I was planning on just bringing bank statements to the interview in the event they asked for more proof...

Surely our country is way passed discrimination against persons in wheelchairs. I don't think you are going to find a London interview that difficult as long as you present the needed documentation. Your I-864 has a place to list your assets. However, the joint sponsor has to make enough on his own. There is no combining with your assets.

Don't forget that you have the domicile issue to deal with since you are not currently resident in the US.

Thankfully the joint sponsor's income does meet the requirements, just not overwhelmingly so. Hopefully meeting the requirement is enough.

When we tried for a non-immigrant visa, the CO really drilled us on what our plans were for health insurance for him and how we were going to pay for things if need be. I suppose it will be different for an immigrant visa since the requirements are more easily defined.

As for domicile, I really haven't transferred anything to the UK. I don't even have a bank account here, and we live with his parents so I've got no real ties as far as real estate/council tax/job ect here in the UK. I was planning on bringing with us copies of my US driver's license (recently renewed), active US voter registration record, US bank statement, US car title, US car insurance, US nursing licensure (recently renewed) and I'm sure other things as I think of them. I've only actively lived in the UK for a year so I'm hoping domicile won't be too difficult to prove. What do you think?

Domicile-- Yep, that's good. I only mentioned it because some people totally miss that part.

Insurance since Obamacare has to take anybody with any pre-existing conditions so getting insurance will be possible. The prices in my opinion have gone way up because of having to accept everybody but will be based on age, use of tobacco...and that's all I remember off the top of my head.

Does anyone else have any other experiences/advice? What should I ask for specifically from his doctor to make things go as smooth as possible?
