I called NVC three times about this as i have some confucion myself, its on the website it says send photocopies of your parents civil documents. They need to bring the originals during the interview at the embassy. Read below hope that helps.

Step 5: Collect Supporting Documents

After you collect your financial forms and supporting financial evidence, you and each family member immigrating with you to the United States should collect civil documents to support your visa application.

  • You must send photocopies of all required civil documents to the NVC.
  • You must submit the originals (or certified copies) and a photocopy of each of your required civil documents to the U.S. Embassy or Consulate at the time of your interview.

yes i have read that too on their website, i got confuse because my friend that filed petition for her parents last year said that they were told to send the original certificates to NVC, but reading the website says just the photocopies and then bring the original to the embassy for interview, i guess i have to rely on what i read in the website.

I agree about the confusion. Although NVC website clearly stated that only photocopies of civil documents are needed, there are several instances where NVC sent an e-mail or letter requesting for the original documents to be sent.

I might just send them a set of original documents and photocopies.

Btw, we almost have the same NVC timeline.
