Not sure what your source is, but Derwood is correct. In addition, they would never send a case to San Antonio (love to be back there now, even with a little ice) for someone living in PA if it required an interview. Long road trip. It is great news that they have action. It's there because the backlog there is shorter than at their local office. Again, I-485's are adjudicated at local offices. We have also been informed by Tier 2 that this requires sign off by a judge; that may explain why it takes so long even when your case is at a local field office...Ours has been in the NYC field office since 2/4/15 (confirmed)...

05-18-2022: Filed N-400 online. Received online NOA and Biometrics re-use.

06-03-2022: Interview scheduled (online notice).

06-10-2022: Interview letter received via USPS.

07-11-2022: Naturalization Interview

03 March 2017: Received biometrics appointment letter dated 25th February 2017. Appointment on 16 March 2017.

16 March 2017: Biometrics completed

08 March 2018: Case (allegedly) transferred to the National Benefits Center (presumably for a combo interview)

04 April 2019: ROC approved (as part of N-400 combo interview)

N-400

18 February 2018: N-400 Application submitted online

21 February 2018: NOA1 Rreceived

23 February 2018: Biometrics appointment letter received. Appointment 13 March 2018. 

27 April 2018: Interview notice received. Interview Date: June 5, 2018. Request to reschedule sent as out of the country at that time.

04 April 2019: Attended interview ... PASSED!

11 April 2019: Oath ceremony

It isn't.

IJs are overworked as it is (dockets are stretching into 2017-2018 just for current cases). If they had to also sign off on every AoS approval then it would take literally years.

So yeah, not true.

I can believe they are hanging onto them at the NBC and then sending them off to the local offices to send out the approval notices or ask for an interview after all, but I do not at all believe a judge has to sign off on all the AOS cases. No.

Understand this, Social Security disabilities are all signed off by a Federal Court judge at each regional office. As far as AOS, this is what a tier 2 told someone. Why do you think they throw the word adjudicate around and not simply processing. All Naturalizations are sworn and signed off by a Federal Court judge. Getting a GC is not like getting a driver's license or a SS card...

No wonder we keep hearing that tap dripping then! Wish it would spring a leak and we could finally hear a gush! :)

I have seem plenty of misinformation come from the USCIS misinformation line, including from tier 2 folks. Just because a tier 2 said it, does not make it a fact. I know why the word adjudicate is used, because that is the correct word for what the adjudicators do. They make a judgment on your case. They act as a judge in making a decision on your application, not that it takes an actual federal judge.

They used to process the cases without interviews much faster. People had their approvals in a few short months. Since they changed the process to send the cases to the NBC instead of the CSC, things have slowed dramatically. It is backlog, not a line for a federal judge to approve them. So glad I found this! I'll be on the same boat in a few months but I'm hoping to hear news from USCIS about my green card soon. It seems like when ever we send documents it takes a but more than expected.
