Does a Congressman's help initiate an Expedite Request?

Hi everyone,

I contacted my congressman in late January for help with the visa process. He has since reached out the NVC, and he sent me a letter with the following response from the NVC:

"Thank you for your email regarding the immigrant visa filed by X on behalf of Y with Case Number CRO123456.

The National Visa Center (NVC) received Ms. X's expedite request for the immigrant visa petition on behalf of Mr. Y. The request was forwarded to the US Embassy in Cairo, Egypt. When a response is received, your office will be notified with further instructions.

Please let me know if I can be of further assistance to your office or to your constituent.

Kind regards,"

I am confused. I did not initiate an expedite request. I just wanted to see if my Congressman could get more info and updates on our case. If you get your Congressman involved, does that initiate the expedite?

Also, why would the NVC send the request to the Embassy in Cairo when all the paperwork is still at the NVC? We are still waiting for a CC.

Any thoughts?

Unfortunately your response doesn't help me as I don't know the "intern" who has my case.

Perhaps I should be more clear in my question. Does getting your congressman/woman involved automatically intiaite an expedite request because a third party is involved?

No

As for the "ask the intern" statement in a previous post, the actual Representative or Senator does not make the call to the agency, one of their staff member's does it on their behalf. Did the staffer in your Congressman's office that you have been dealing with take it upon themselves to request an expedite on your behalf?

July 30, 2011: Received NOA2 hardcopy in mail
August 8, 2011: NVC received file
September 1, 2011: NVC case number assigned
September 2, 2011: AOS invoice received, OPTIN email for EP sent
September 7, 2011: Paid AOS bill (payment portal showed PAID on September 9, 2011)
September 8, 2011: OPTIN email accepted, GZO number assigned
September 10, 2011: Emailed AOS package
September 12, 2011: IV bill invoiced
September 13, 2011: Paid IV bill (payment portal showed PAID on September 14, 2011)
September 14, 2011: Emailed IV package
October 3, 2011: Emailed checklist response (checklist generated due to typo on Form DS-230)
October 6, 2011: Case complete at NVC
November 10, 2011: Interview - APPROVED!!!
December 7, 2011: POE - Sea-Tac Airport

September 17, 2013: Mailed I-751 to CSC

September 23, 2013: Received NOA1 in mail (receipt date September 19th)

October 16, 2013: Biometrics Appointment

January 28, 2014: Production of new Green Card ordered

February 3, 2014: New Green Card received; done with USCIS until fall of 2023*

December 18, 2023:  Filed I-90 to renew Green Card

December 21, 2023:  Production of new Green Card ordered - will be seeing USCIS again every 10 years for renewal
