AOS Interview: Assembling the Documents

Finally, after over six months of waiting, I have my interview date for AOS! But, unfortunately, the checklist I got with the interview invitation is written in the worst kind of legalese, and I'm not really sure about some of the bullet points. Mostly, I'm super confused about the following:

"All documentation establishing your eligibility for Lawful Permanent Resident status."

Since I came here on a K-1, does this mean just submitting my marriage certificate, or do they need my NOA2 or anything like that as well?

"Original and copy of each supporting document that you submitted with your application. Otherwise, we may keep your originals for our records."

I assume this refers only to the NOA application, and not any of the K-1 paperwork? So this would mean showing them my passport, birth certificate, etc.?

"If you have ever been arrested, bring the related Police Report and the original or certified Final Court Disposition for each arrest, even if the charges have been dismissed or expunged. If no court record is available, bring a letter from the court with jurisdiction indicating this."

So, if I have never been arrested, and hence have no crime record, do I need to bring anything? Or do I have to somehow obtain another proof of having no crime record from my original country? Because that's going to take forever if I apply to get one now. But I guess they would let me reschedule if I can't obtain the necessary documents in time? I'm just really confused about the wording here, and I can't tell if this is for everyone or just for those who have been arrested at some point.

Thanks for any help! I know I wouldn't have gotten this far without VisaJourney :)

Welcome to the forum.

For our AOS interview, we brought every piece of paper, document that we had accumulated thus far in our immigration journey. It was a good thing we did. The IO wanted to see my divorce decrees, photos that we had submitted for the K1 visa petition and application. They can and do ask for anything. Unless you feel lucky, and want to risk a delaying and troublesome RFE, think about what you are bringing to the interview.

Regarding the arrest thing, you answered your own question. The operative word is "if." If you have never been arrested, then you do not have a crime record....

Good luck on your immigration journey.

Agree with A&B when we went to our AOS interview I brought every piece of paper we had for every thing we submitted. We did not need any of it but I wanted it all with us so there were no issues. I Think he was a bit intimated by the large pile of papers I brought. Make sure you have a copy of the police clearance you needed for the k1. That should answer any questions.

The problem is... I don't have a copy of the police clearance I got. It's one of the only piece of papers I never thought to copy, because it came in just before I shipped off all my papers. Hence, I do not have a copy of it on hand, and I would have to order a new one back from Finland, which is going to take at least a week. Except the interview is next Friday. There is no way I can get the police clearance letter by then. This is mostly why I was asking - if I do need my "has no crime record" letter, I need to reschedule my appointment, contact the police department of my old city, pay them money to get another copy of the record, and then wait for the record to show up. Do I really need it? Did they want to see it?

Just posting to confirm that it wasn't needed! I called the USCIS help line, and they said it was fine. Went to the interview and they never asked for it - or for most of the other papers I had, so there's that. Just in case anyone else ever wonders about this :)
