Traveling on a K1 visa after the I-797's validity

The validity on my I-797 for K1-visa is 9/25/2014 to 01/24/2015. I already got my visa on December 1, 2014 and it will expire on May 2015. Will it be okay if I will only go to the US on February 12, 2015?

You typically have six months from the date of your medical to enter the US.

If it expires in May 2015 then yes it is fine to travel there in February. Remember, you must remain in the US until you receive your AP/greencard.

The reason why I asked this is because I read somewhere that the fiance was deported when s/he was at the POE, in Detroit, which will also be my POE, because the "petition has expired" even though the visa was still valid. So I was thinking that that was the I-797 perhaps? Got scared there lol Edited by lavenderandcream

The validity on your I-797 was only for processing your K1 visa which you do have now! You visa is valid until May 2015 so you should be fine to travel in Feb!

Do not forget to get a CFO sticker too if you are leaving from the Philippines!

With all the "horror" stories people can read online about problems with their K1 papers, one can't help being paranoid like me ?

Sorry lol, visa waiver permit, absolutely nothing to do with the K1 don't worry it's something us brits (and some other countries) use to visit the US as a tourist. I must have posted in the wrong thread by mistake! My original comments to you still stand however, it was just that one post.

When you get a chance, :time: It helps everyone that uses, or is helped by the forum.

Good luck on your immigration journey.

I got my visa in Nairobi and traveled after one and half months. no problem at all. as long as your visa is still valid. And no, i did not encounter any of the horrors explained online... I entered thru Miami Florida and actually found a Ugandan origin immigration officer. I was carrying my xrays but no one even asked to see them. Now, one and half months later I have my green card even though i delayed in filing my AOS after marriage... so most of the horror stories told are really blown out of proportion. I overstayed my visa and still got my conditional green card without delays after filing. I didn't even have a green card interview. so chin up...leave when you are ready. just don't let the 6 months pass before you travel.
