not sure what section to put this in folks

My wife who is a IR1 visa holder from the Philippines & I have a new baby

we are planning to take the baby to her family's place till my wife finishes school here in the states.

we already have an American birth certificate & passport for the little one

once in the Philippines how can we get the child dual citizenship ?

should my wife report the birth to the Philippine embassy here in the states?

02/28/2012 medical done ONE DAY !!!

03/14/2012 VISA APPROVED : )))

The easiest way (if you have time before you leave for PHL) is to go through a Philippines consulate here in the US. For New Hampshire, you would use the New York Consulate:

If you have not already done so, you'll likely need to report the marriage (if it occurred in the US) as well. Then a report of birth abroad for a Philippines citizen. Then apply for a passport in the child's name. You can probably do all of these things at once at the consulate. We did this in San Francisco and it was by far the easiest thing. The only problem might be the wait time - it may take a month or several months for all the paperwork to be processed and the passport to be issued. But then you'll be ready (with a Philippines passport for the child) and won't have to pay visa fees for the child once in Philippines.

If you're leaving soon and don't have enought time, this can be done in Philippines, however, DFA can be very crowded with long wait times. Same goes for NBI. It took us a whole day to get throught he citizenship reacquisition process last summer at NBI in intramuros in Manila...

thank you for the info

I don't think we have enough time to do everything

(wife leaves on the 24th)

but maybe we can report the birth

then finish the process there.
