OK, so now I'm a citizen, I know I'm supposed to enter and leave on a US passport. But I have to leave in a hurry - i.e. tomorrow. Now I'll worry about re-entry later, but my question for now is - are they gonna give me a hard time LEAVING on my foreign passport?

"However, dual nationals owe allegiance to both the United States and the foreign country. They are required to obey the laws of both countries. Either country has the right to enforce its laws, particularly if the person later travels there. Most U.S. nationals, including dual nationals, must use a U.S. passport to enter and leave the United States. Dual nationals may also be required by the foreign country to use its passport to enter and leave that country. Use of the foreign passport does not endanger U.S. nationality. Most countries permit a person to renounce or otherwise lose nationality."

Yeah, I know what you're SUPPOSED to do, but I figure they're hardly gonna detain me, right?? Anyway, apparently getting a same-day passport at the New York agency is (relatively) simple, so I'm gonna give that a go first.

I doubt you will be detain, but I don't think anyone here can tell you one way or the other for sure.

I am glad you are going to get a passport. I was going to suggest that next as I was doing some searches for you and it seems you could get a passport expedited where you live.

Moot point - New York passport agency did a grand job getting me my US passport in under 3 hours. Job done.
