I-130 Civil Partnership to Marriage conversion - (DCF) London Embassy)

Bit of background for those not familiar. In the UK earlier this year marriage between same-sex couples became legal. However, those couples who had already entered a Civil Partnership were not entitled to convert it to a marriage until December 10th 2014.

On December 11th 2014 my partner and I had our conversion ceremony and we are now officially Married. The marriage is backdated to the date of our Civil Partnership (December 14th 2013) which meant we had our Marriage service on the 11th and our one year anniversary on the 14th of December this year!!!! But I digress.

We posted our I-130 straight after our ceremony and have received NOA1.

I'm interested in anyone else from the UK that have taken a similar route to us in getting the I-130 submitted. It's been frustrating having to wait until December to get it sent. I'm particularly interested to see how our Marriage Certificate is viewed throughout as it is titled "Certified copy of entry of marriage" and underneath reads "this ceremony was converted from a Civil Partnership" OWTTE. I'm assured it will be viewed as if we had originally entered into a marriage but would be good to hear it from people going through the process.

I'm going to bet you have zero issues. London isn't known for being hard to work with, and being that you're working with the local embassy, they'll be familiar with all the processes you've been through to have your CP converted to a Marriage.

They don't have any requirements for being married for a certain period, so whether they cared about when the conversion took place vs. the original civil partnership wouldn't matter.

I bet they see a lot of people going through this process with that conversion because the US doesn't recognise the CP, but the UK does (as in, the UK gives visas to civil partners).
