Hello,

In the middle of packaging together our marriage certificates and passports I had a horrible realization... despite getting a US passport and consular report of birth abroad for our 6 month old daughter, I COMPLETELY forgot to file for the SSN. We travel in 7 days with nonrefundable tickets and Christmas will be very sad if we are not able to head home. Does my daughter need a SSN to enter the USA? Again, she has her US passport and the original consular report of a US citizen abroad. I am a natural born US citizen but my wife is a resident of japan. Technically our daughter also has a Japanese passport but we planned to travel with her as a US citizen since it seems the US does not recognize dual citizenship.

Cut down version: Do I need to have a SSN for my 6 month old daughter in addition to the US passport (have this) and the US consular report of a birth abroad (have this).

Thank you!

Personally I have grown weary of transiting through SeaTac. But what the hay.......

Have a pleasant and uneventful trip back to Puget Sound.

For the record, the US does recognize dual citizenship. More here: http://japan.usembassy.gov/e/acs/tacs-7118.html and http://www.moj.go.jp/ENGLISH/information/tcon-01.html

Good luck
