Recent Medical @ SLEC Experience

Me and my son were done with the medical exam yesterday at SLEC. Took us two days to complete everything. First day is for the medical exam proper and the following day is the vaccination and releasing of the result. We got there at 9am on the first day, finished at 3:30pm. Guard before entry asked for:

2 copies online preregistration

1 copy passport

2 copies p4 interview letter

Other requirements they'll be asking in the process:

3 pcs 2x2 picture with complete name written on the back

Passport

Baby book (if you have a child with you) plus 2 copies of every page of vaccines given to your child

After entering the clinic, just follow the security guard instructions where to go next, and instructions from the staffs, you'll never go wrong. Paid 11,025 PhP for me and 8,325 PhP for my son. My 1 yr old son was only required to have vital signs, height, weight taking, physical exam and immunization interview, no TST for him, it is only for 2-14yrs old children. As for me, all of those plus xray and blood test (except TST). Asked to come back the next day at 10am.

2nd day: We arrived at 9:15am and stamped immunization by the sec. guard which took me out of my misery, lol. Its because if you got prob in xray, you might be stamped with sputum exam which will delay the case for 2 months. Miserable right? We proceed to the immunization area, waited for our names to be called. I got two shots, my son got three, poor baby!

Then the biggest waiting moment came. In my sons case, results were released after an hour, but for me, took 4 hours! Such a pain in the #######, lol! They prioritize the senior citizens and children. We're out of the clinic at 4pm with xray cd, passport, receipt, and immunization record copy.

***Important things I've learned in the process:

Be attentive. Listen carefully as your name is being called in the different areas.

Make sure your 2x2 photo passed the photo requirements (ears should be very visible).

Heavy breakfast before going to the clinic. You'll be waiting like you don't want to grab some snack or even lunch coz you don't want to miss once your name was called.

Wear light and easy to remove clothing and shoes. Have a jacket with you, tends to be colder as you stay longer inside the premise.

Prepare to wait longer. Its a test of patience!

Thanks for the excellent advice, and I am glad it went so well for you.

Sorry your son had to get so many vaccines, but all babies here get them too. And since they protect us from sicknesses that are far worse than the vaccines themselves, if it were me, I would get them even if there were no law which says I have to.

Question? My wife and I are waiting for the NVC paperwork to arrive at the Manila U.S. Embassy right now. From what I'm reading here, it sounds like you need paperwork from the Embassy to make your appointment for the medical exam. Right?

2nd question. My wifes daughter (my stepdaughter) has some scarring of the lungs because she had some bad chest infections over the past 2 years. No issues with TB....but the last xray done by the clinic she goes to said there is signs of scarring. Does that mean she might be flagged for the sputum test?

From what I'm reading from your experience....it sounds like this might hold up our case. I certainly hope not. =((

Paperwork from embassy? You mean hard copy letter? No. That is a common myth. You don't need that letter and in fact should not wait for it as their system for getting it to you is really bad

And I mean REALLY bad. Many ladies, including my wife, never even see the letter. She was interviewed back in May, and to this date the letter was never received.

All you need to make USEM interview appointment is MNL number, which NVC sends to you, and the receipt when you pay your interview fee. When you sign up for your interview, they email you an appointment slip, which you need at both St; Lukes and at the embassy.

While usually you need the USEM appointment date and the appointment slip to get your medical, for a while, due to the huge Yolanda crunch, St Lukes was letting people slide on that and taking you in with just the MNL number. I don't know if they are still allowing that.

Is the girl 14 or under? If so they give her a TB skin test, not chest x-ray, so things like benign scarring on the lungs don't mess things up. But if 15 or older, yes it might mess you up. Sorry for the bad news. Hope it goes OK. Telling the doc about the incident that caused the scarring might help him conclude it is nothing to worry about.

The NVC called me Friday (10/24/14) and told me the case was being sent to the Embassy via DHL. I called the NVC today and they said the file was sent via DHL 10/27/14 (Monday) & that the Embassy has received the electronic file, but not the physical file.

Hank? I've usually gotten any correspondence from the NVC or USCIS via email as soon as some action or decision was made on the file. And usually what they email me is exactly what they send in the physical mail as well. But since NVC has completed my case, shouldn't have I already received an email with the notice or letter attached?

You or your wife should be getting a letter/email from NVC stating your interview date and such being the case file has been sent to USEM. Maybe check your spam folders just to be safe.
