We applied for Adjustment of Status a few weeks ago and receive RFE checklist on Friday. It is requesting the sponsor or joint sponsor's most recent year tax return. I provided IRS transcripts for my most recent year and IRS transcripts for our co-sponsor's most recent year and previous two years. I did not earn enough to be required to file taxes last year and I attached a letter of explanation. Did I send the wrong things because I sent transcripts instead of returns? Are those different things? We have an infopass appt on Wednesday to double-double check!

Thank you,

Completely tax oblivious.

IRS tax return transcripts are the same as a complete copy of a tax return with all forms schedules, W-2s and/or 1099s.

You do not appear to have actually filed for adjustment of status, and seem to be going for a spousal visa, so going to move your post to the more appropriate forum.

I did file for adjustment of status. I'm not an idiot. I know what I have filed for. Originally, we did file for I-130, but have changed it to adjustment of status.

Your use of checklist for the I-864 and your timeline showing you filed for an I-130 is what made me believe you had only filed for a spousal visa, going through the London consulate. Thank you for updating your timeline. Okay, so it still wasn't in the AOS forum, where I will now move it to.

Sometimes they send an RFE for things people have previously sent in. If you are sure you sent in everything needed, then all you can so is resend the IRS tax return transcripts they are asking for. I would also resend the explanation statement of why the USC petiioner/sponsor was not legally required to file.

I will forgo further borderline rude PMs and just post any responses in this public thread.

I was not actually required to answer you, but I did. Since you do not appreciate the help you asked for and believe my answer to be incorrect, I am glad you finally found the answer on your own elsewhere.

I was not incorrect about the transcripts being the same though. You are to provide an IRS transcript or a complete copy of your return. Either one is acceptable. It states this in the I-864 instructions>

You must provide either an IRS transcript or a photocopy from your own records of your Federal individual income
tax return for the most recent tax year.

...

If you provide a photocopy of your tax return(s), you must include a copy of each and every Form W-2 and Form 1099
that relates to your return(s). Do not include copies of these Forms if you provide an IRS transcript of your return(s)
rather than a photocopy.
