SSN without valid passport or birth certificate (merged)

Hello,

I will appreciate your help in following - I got my Employment Authorization Card (I-766) last week and I went to SSA office, hoping that I will get my SS number - I was informed that I must present my card, plus a valid passport or original birth certificate - unfortunately, I do not have any of those and it will be extremely hard for me (or even impossible) to get new passport or birth certificate from my country.

Any idea what should I do? As a mention, I have the card (valid for 1 year), but no passport or birth certificate - are there any other documents I can present in order to have my SS number? No one seems to know the answer to this question.

How did you send in all your documentation to USCIS without valid identification? I highly doubt it'll be possible for you to get a SSN without any passport or ID.

They shouldn't be requiring a passport if you have your EAD. That said why don't you have a passport, did you lose it? Wouldn't you be able to request a replacement at the Macedonian consulate?

I will apply next week at a local consulate, but I am really worried that it will take a long time to have them reissued to me (at least few months) - I was just wondering is there any chance I can apply for SSN without my passport or birth certificate.

Yes, go again and demand to speak to a supervisor. From my understanding, the EAD should be sufficient proof since it serves to verify your age, identity, and work authorization. Unless they require at least two ID's. What happened to your passport with the visa in it? Did you lose it and why do you think they will take months to issue a new one?

This is what is confusing me (a lot) - this is what is written on SSA website under Documents needed for Noncitizens, under Age proof: You must present your foreign birth certificate if you have it or can get it within 10 days. If not, we will consider other documents such as your passport or a document issued by DHS as evidence of your age. But again at the end of the paragraph - However, you must provide at least two separate documents. Is there any other document that I can present - anything else from DHS, except I-766? Or it must be passport or birth certificate?

My documents were stolen from my friends car last year (other things as well, but my passport and other personal documents too). As for the new passport or birth certificate, I just know from personal experience that it will take a long time.

I see. You can try going again, but if they require two separate docs try getting the BC, it may be faster than the passport. You should call your consulate to find out for sure.
