Hi Everyone,

I would like to know if there is someone from here who applied for K1 visa who are less than 2 years in a long distance relationship but already has been meeting up with their fiancee several occasions in person.

My fiancee and I meet online and we've been talking everyday though chat, skype and phone. Stayed with him in US for a month and travels within US together. Meet the family and everything went well. After that one month of vacation with him, we also meet weekly as I am working in a cruiseship and my ship is always in the US port near to his house. He proposes when I was with him in US. We've been researching about K1 but most of the sites says, meeting personally within two years prior to the applicaiton. Has anyone applied K1 with less than a year in a relationship? The rest of the requirements we are qualified and has evidence.

Hope anyone can give us an idea or share their personal experience or at least give us an advise.

Thanks in advance.

You don't need to be in a relationship for 2 years prior to sending the petition, the only requirements are that you've seen each other in person within 2 years of applying and that you are both legally free to marry.

You're welcome and good luck on your journey :)

There are people here who have been in a relationship for a very short time, seeing each other in person only once and being approved. The length of the relationship doesn't really matter at the petition stage, USCIS only cares about the couple being together physically within two years of filing so let's put it like this - if you send your petition October 1st 2014, you'll be OK as long as you've seen each other at least once in the past 2 years (between September 30th 2012 and October 1st 2014).

Don't need to date for 2 years. You just have to see each other in the past two years from the date you will file her petition.

My fiancé and I met in November 2013 and applied in July 2014. We are still awaiting NOA2.

I don't believe that will create a problem. I think there are many less than a year or two relationships that have applied and been approved.

Hi Everyone,

I would like to know if there is someone from here who applied for K1 visa who are less than 2 years in a long distance relationship but already has been meeting up with their fiancee several occasions in person.

Requirement is not having known each other two years, requirement is having met in person within the past two years. You can file the petition two days after meeting each other. ;)

Relax you are fine. In my case, I only knew my wife for about 8 months before filing. I also only met her once for 2 weeks in person. My petition was approved without issue.
