New Visa Fees and delay in invoices and processing

Hi everyone,

I guess we all heard about the delay in NVC in issuing AOS or IV invoices, as we heard about the extended 60 days to review any documents or package

as we heard about the new Visa fees, which will they start working with from today September 12 2014

My question is, is it possible that all this delay is to make more people go with the new Visa fees? do you think that processing times will be back to normal after the new fees are on ?

No it isn't. No they wont.

I had my case received by the NVC on Aug 27. They opened up the AOS fee for me on Sept. 11, just 24hrs before the change.

I think if they wanted to delay my case a day to gig me for the extra $42, they could have easily done it. I can't see them really delaying for a few bucks.

Only if theyy hire a boatload of new people to handle the backlog. That's the issue not them collecting a few extra bucks from us. And it will get worst not better in the coming months.

There are at least two of us that received IV bills yesterday. I don't think they delay bills being invoiced. Our DS261 was submitted on August 12th. I was only seeing submissions from late July getting invoiced until ours was invoiced yesterday.

I received the 60 day email this morning. It was for our IV packet which I sent in on Monday (before being invoiced). Even though they are still sending this email out I believe the process will be speeding up now. I really wish I would have sent in our IV packet sooner.

The problem is if you have not received your interview before December 11th you will be required to pay the new fees as well. The NVC received our documents right after we received/paid our invoice which was on the 8th of September (we filed the DS-261 on July 28th). Now they say we have to wait 60 days days possibly till they are reviewed, and this doesn't even include the case being completed. It looks like we're looking at an interview date past the December 11th due date. To me it seems like we're being set up to pay the extra fees and there is nothing we can do about it.

Anyone we can contact to avoid the worst possible scenario?

I agree that this is pretty ridiculous. Since we can't control how long NVC is taking to review documents, the fee amounts should be based only on when the fees were invoiced, not on the date of the interview. Even then, many who are waiting upwards of a month to have their DS-261 reviewed and IV fee invoiced would have to pay the new amount, which seems unfair.

Not true. Visa fees paid to the NVC are valid for 1 year.

The actual notice from the State Department states:

Important Notice - New Application Fees: Nonimmigrant and immigrant visa application fees for certain visa categories will change on September 12, 2014. All visa applicants must pay the fee amounts in effect on the day they pay, with the exception of Immigrant Visa application processing fees paid domestically to the National Visa Center (NVC), which will be effective as of the date of billing.
