Hi everybody,

I just got married in Kiev today! That's great and I now nice pink colored paper from the local RAGS. So, what do I do next?

I am looking to start the I-130 process as soon as possible.

The lady in the local RAGS told us to go to the Central RAGS to get it "legalized" whatever that means. I then need to translate this to English and notarize, correct? Not sure if I'll have enough time before flying back to the states to get this done. Is it really needed or just translation and notarizing of the document that I already have is sufficient as far as the states side for I-130?

thanks a lot.

-- Alex.

Alex, we heard the same from lady in the local RAGS. But she said this as common situation. USA and Ukraine is members Convention de la Haye du 5 octobre 1961 http://eldia.ru/apostille/#stan7

It means USA don't want whole process of legalization, but only APOSTILLE. It is making in Kiev and have date experied. Good news that Visa process dont need any legalization neither at the stage of USCIS, nor one stage NVC. USCIS need color photocopies. NVC need original of police sertificate and athorized copies all another docs. So you will need two more athorized copies your marriage sertificate, exept one original, from RAGS. But RAGS cannot give it in same day as they give original, maybe next day and one another day. You will have three items for each name of docs from RAGS: three birth sertificate, three divorce sertificate (if need), etc. You will leave package of all originals in Ukraine, package of athorized copies the same docs will send to NVC, and package of athorized copies the same docs will hold for replace docs, if NVC will lose anything.
