Traveling with Advanced Parole/Work Permit card. Caveats?

We're coming up on a year of marriage, and we're planning to travel back to my wife's home country in the fall to visit her family, as she's been away for a while now.

We filed her documents for status change, AP and work authorization shortly after our wedding, and we received the combo card not too long thereafter. We had one RFE, but were sent a letter saying our case had been waived of an interview (that's good!), but it takes longer to get the GC because of that (wha.... that's bad!).

To the point, we have the AP, it's valid and we were told in March it would be approximately six months for the GC to arrive, since there's no interview.

Is there anything I need to be aware of regarding her traveling with the AP? If the GC were to come while we're overseas, would that in some way invalidate the AP in the immigration system? Should I (ugh) call USCIS?

Please advise as any warnings or things to be aware of.

I'd really appreciate it.

Thank you!

First, it's not a guarantee that you will not have an interview. Most (all?) AoS applications from a K-1 receive that letter, and some go on to receive an interview and some do not; it's not set in stone either way.

Second, AP is routinely granted and used on a daily basis. That being said, admission on AP is not guaranteed. It's up to you whether you want to travel on it. Provided you have no inadmissibility issues then using it should not be an issue.

No, I understand that it's not a guarantee, but we've had no issues thus far with our paperwork. Our RFE was just for additional financial paperwork, nothing too major.

Regarding the AP, should we bring any additional paperwork with us?

As regards to the GC interview, should I call when the six months passes or is that a moot point?

Just the combo card and passport is all that is required to attempt entry on AP.

There is no real point to calling USCIS after six months, because the six months isn't set in stone either. I've seen some K-1s get their green card in 4 months and others 14 months; it depends on several factors, the vast majority of which are beyond your control.
