Hi! So i just had my biometrics yesterday, i did an early walk-in and luckily they did allow me to.

But there is something that worrying me about, i signed the form that he gave me in my single name. I mean i wrote what is written on my passport. I asked him if i can use my husbands last name and he asked me if do i have my marriage certificate and i told him i did not bring it with me, NO MARRIAGE CERTIFICATE NO MARRIED NAME he said. Will that be a problem? So my EAD will not have my husbands last name right? I'm worrying i will run into problems about it in the future though he told me that if i want my husbands name on my GC i can then ask the USCIS on the day of my interview to change it.

My main concern is as soon as i will receive my EAD i am going to get my SSN, State ID, and even apply for my Learners permit to drive or a Drivers license. I'm sure it will not have my husbands name on each ID's i mentioned above. Is there a way to change it? Will it cause any delay? Thanks

Was your letter addressed to you in your maiden name or new married name? The EAD should have the name on it that you used on the form when you filed.

My appointment letter was addressed in my married name and all the forms that we filed for I-485.

The guy that did my biometrics did now allow me to put my married name on the form i filled up on the day i had my biometrics because i did not have my marriage certificate with me. But i saw on the monitor that he put my married name as the Alias.. So will my EAD have my married name even though the form i fill up on the day of my Biometrics was my name when i was not married yet? Thank you

I honestly do not know. Since you filled out the form in your married name, and the letter was addressed to you in your married name, then it should come in the married name. That person was a bit off in their 'logic'. I know sometimes they have not allowed people into the biometrics appointment without the marriage certificate, but others have had no problems at all without having theirs with them. A copy of it was included with your initial filing to prove your name change. That guy should not have changed anything from the way the USCIS already had it entered.

You could make an infopass appointment to speak someone to make sure your married name is in the system and that is what your EAD/AP and green card will come with. Take your marriage certificate with you.

If the ED happens to come in your maiden name, then you can just leave your SSN and accounts in your maiden name until you receive the green card in your married name. Then, just use the green card as ID to change everything to your married name. You can try and call and make sure your married name is in the system for your EAD and green card, or as I suggested before, make an infopass appointment and go in person with your marriage certificate to make sure it is all correct in their system before anything is approved and issued.
