Can somebody please explain to me what this letter means?

Hi , i just received a letter from superior court of California jury services, i dont understand the content of the letter, can somebody plz explain to me why i received this letter and what this letter means?

here what is in the letter in brief:

Thank you for taking the time to fulfill this important civic responsibility, i ve included some information below that will make your experience as a juror more enjoyable ............................................

all jurors entering the courthouse are required to go through a weapons screening process conducted by the sheriffs department, please do not bring into the courthouse any objects that could be used as a weapon................................................

jury service is a minimum of one day only if you are not assigned to a courthouse, if you are assigned to a courthouse you should be prepared to complete a trial

please can somebody explain to me what this letter means , i worried too much as quick as i read this letter , your help is much appreciated, i'm waiting for your help

Assuming you are a U.S. Citizen (Not sure if Lawful Residents can be selected), it appears that you have just been selected for Jury Duty.

You MUST show up to the court on the date on the letter. This is where it will be determined if you are selected to be on the jury they need you for. Not showing up for jury duty is a bad thing and can result in some serious legal problems.

I suggest you contact the court, who will then tell you the procedure for what to do if you would like to request to be exempt from the jury duty, but if your request is denied, you need to go. This is a public responsibility, and the duty of all U.S. citizens IF they are called upon.

Don't worry, you are NOT in any kind of trouble! You will be paid a certain wage for the time you are required to attend court to be a member of a court jury.

Relax, relax! This is not a bad thing at all and no reason to get nervous!

You will go to court and if you are selected among the other people who were also sent the same letter you received, you will be part of a Jury to determine if a person is Innocent or Guilty of a crime. Basically, what you will do is listen to the lawyers talk about the issue, and then you and the other jurors must make a decision if the person is Innocent or Guilty of the crime he or she is at court for.

You did nothing wrong to deserve this letter and the reason you got it is because anyone with a U.S. Citizenship is selected RANDOMLY for this duty.

You will get paid for your time doing this and you are basically being asked by the government to help them pursue justice

How did you get my name?

All potential jurors are selected at random from lists. Courts use Department of Motor Vehicles and voter registration lists.

It is important that you reply back that you are not a US Citizen yet.

Thank you, i started understanding now, i'm not US citizen, i'm CR1 visa ( lawful permanent resident) , when i have read the letter for the first second, i thought they are contacting me from the court concerning ex DV case, because it was then the first time i attended the court, i forgived my husband and we are happily married now,

may be they picked my name from department of motor vehicles

Is their a consequence for not appearing in the court, For not showing up?

It means: Don't bring your gun to court when you appear at the appointed date and time for jury duty. Simple, no guns allowed in court. And if your state is anything like Hawaii you will have to appear. They usually will not accept phone calls or even letters to be excused from jury duty unless you are a judge, attorney, priest or doctor. Make sure you bring the letter with you when you appear at court so you will get your jury duty fee even if they excuse you. You should be entitled to at least 1/2 day jury duty fee just for showing up but you will need to bring that letter along and ask the court clerk to make sure you get compensated.

P.S. Yes, there is a consequence for not showing up. A warrant could be issued for your arrest for CONTEMPT OF COURT. You don't want to risk that now do you? That would very likely affect your ROC later on.

You need to contact the court clerk and inform them you are not eligible for jury duty since you are not a US citizen. Simply ignoring the notice could result in action against you and appearing for duty knowing you are not a US citizen could result in problems.

Do i have to make a phone call? or just appear the day/time in the court with the letter and let them know am not US citizen yet?

I work in the court system. (Prosecutors) Trust me. Unless you want to take a chance at a bench warrant being issued for contempt of court you should appear IN PERSON at the proper place at the proper time with the letter in hand as well as your LPR card and other identification. I would NEVER trust calling the court and hoping that the person I talked to really took proper action to see that I was in fact excused. I would go IN PERSON. The court clerk will want to see your green card and probably at least one other ID (drivers license?) I would also bring my passport along just in case. You can never be too careful. Specially when you have an ROC pending. Be safe. And don't forget to get your jury duty fee for appearing as ordered.
