Here is our story:

I work with my fiancee's aunt, whom introduced us, at Walmart. I have been at Walmart 9 years. I have only been part-time the last few years because I have been at college. I am 28, almost 29, and I graduated college in April with a bachelors in Early Childhood Education. I am trying to move to full-time at work while looking for a teaching job. I talked to the store manager and we are watching for new FT positions. I had a few hours at the school as the drumline equipment manager. I have been subbing to get my name in the schools. With my current pay rate, which only recently went up due to a raise, I would be above the 125% poverty line with at least 37 hours a week. I have only averaged about 30-32 because of hours Walmart has available and school. I had less hours during the actual semester. Before the spring semester I only worked during holidays and the summer. The teacher hiring season has winded down; although things can happen. With a teacher's salary I would definitely be above the 125% poverty line.

Since I know my records won't show me meeting the 125% poverty line I have asked her aunt to be a co-sponsor. She makes well above the 125% poverty line. I have read so many threads on this site about Manila, co-sponsors, and affidavits of support but I want to know if the CO will look positively at my situation and the chance they will consider the co-sponsor. I have seen where people said they don't accept co-sponsors but I have also seen where people said it depended on the situation. My situation seems to be the more likely to be considered situation, but I have been so worried ever since I read about co-sponsor problems. I love my fiancee so much, she and work are my priorities now.

I also want to know does it ever help if the beneficiary plans to work? My fiancee has been guaranteed a job at Walmart when she can work.

As you have read getting USEM to accept a co-sponsor with the K-1 visa is 50/50 at best. One thing they require if they are even going to consider a co-sponsor with the K-1 is that person needs to be a relative, I don't know how they would look at the co-sponsor being your fiancee's Auntie.

It will be a real gamble with the K-1.

With the IR/CR-1 visa the embassy has to accept a qualified co-sponsor even if it is not a relative.

I also want to know does it ever help if the beneficiary plans to work? My fiancee has been guaranteed a job at Walmart when she can work.

Nope doesn't help at all if the beneficiary plans to work.

You're in a tight spot. You need to come up with more income. You have not received your NOA2 yet...so, if you can come up with additional income, you just might have a chance. As another said, not sure if having the aunt co-sponsor will work. And, a co-sponsor on a K1 is, apparently, not widely accepted. I suppose there are reasons for that.

Perhaps you can get a part time job somewhere else. As long as you have the paystubs to show that you're earning enough money...that should do. Walmart is notorious for part time work and being somewhat inconsistent!! Personally, if you've been there for 9 years...I'd be applying elsewhere for "full time" work in a similar or advanced capacity! Definitely time to bail on them if they're not willing or unable to help you out. Surely, there must be something else out there that pays more than WalMart!

Best of luck!!!

Yea I have seen the preferred relative posts, but I live with my grandparents and they receive social security which isn't enough. They are also old and I have read that older co-sponsors are likely to be declined because they do not have too long to live. My mom lost her job a few months ago and is now at Walmart with me, with lower pay. I don't know my dad. That is my closest family, which I have read helps best. I could ask other family. I know I don't know anything about this, but I think they would be more likely to consider her aunt because she is her family and she will make absolutely sure my fiancee is doing okay. I think it is stupid not to consider beneficiary work especially if you can prove they will be given a job.

Thanks, my case is at the TSC so it will be at least 5.5 to 6 months. "You have not received your NOA2 yet...so, if you can come up with additional income, you just might have a chance." is comforting.

Oddly enough it had not crossed my mind to get part-time work somewhere else. I would only need a day or two a week. They are trying to help; as a company they are only allowed so many full-time jobs. They were helping me look, but they had none available when we were looking. I had not been pushing full-time the last several years because of school, but I have been talking to a few managers trying to keep me on their mind when they get openings. I don't know of any places that pay more than what I earn at Walmart; since I have been there 9 years. I am going to talk to them again when I work tomorrow. I am also going to look for part-time work for a day or two a week. Don't get me wrong; I don't think Walmart is perfect but as a company they have been good to me. Many thanks for your post.

Yes, I understand. Appears that you're in Calhoun, GA. Really don't know the "lay of the land" there. Are you a member of LinkedIn? You might try that. While it takes a while to build a base of "friends" there...once you do, you will be offered opportunities! Really. I've been offered a few opportunities. While I'm content where I'm at now...if the right thing came along...I'd investigate it. Anyway...there may be some options for you. Keep your eyes ears and head open and you'll come across something. After 9 years at WM...you have something to offer to someone else - mostly...loyalty! That counts for a bit! I realize that your education is in children's education...if there's a private school, or some other schools that cater to tots, take a look at those opportunities - if you haven't done so already. Or, you just might have to look outside of Calhoun! Keep your options open!!!

Best of luck to you!!!

I can tell you are a responsible person, so I know you will find extra income source,

and I think it will all go well.

That said, since you are in education field, my son had worked a part-time job at

after school tutoring centers for about $15/hour. Something to consider...

Good luck.

I only share what I have learned from others that have went the co-sponsor route, some have been accepted some have not. Frustrating at best for sure.

I have never heard of age of co-sponsor being an issue.

I was reading a post about income on here and realized I was doing the math wrong for my income. If I work about 35/36 hours a week I make enough to support my fiancee. Work is helping me out by giving me the hours so my check stubs I submit will reflect it. I should be able to keep the hours for future checks after I submit the paystubs. I had an interview for a teaching job on Friday and it went really well so I hope I got it.

As long as your GROSS income, at least, meets the 125% poverty guidelines there are no issues. Don't subtract taxes or anything - that is gross income.

Thank you. Yes, I have been using my Gross. I was doing the math wrong but I should be okay now. I was only accounting for 48 weeks in a year when there are 52. I am happy as my income could be the only barrier to complete our petition.
