They asked my MIL, where she was going and why, who was she going to visit, where was she staying, any relatives living in the US, does she have children with US visas and what kind, when she is to return to work. I forgot some of them. She said it took 10 mins for her interview.

Also (depending on age) I understand they may ask if

U had a great job offer for few wks would U accept it,

of course U would not ! U would be sight seeing and

having fun with those U know. Convincing the CO U

will return home is the attitude to have , pleasant, not

uptight & don't give info not asked

they would usually ask your intention to visit US and how long your stay. where you present work and salary. these are among the basic questions.

Hello everyone ..I hope every one journey is going well...I was wondering if anyone know the questions that would be asked on a tourist visa interview? Thank you

This biggest complaint seen here on VJ is that the IO asked no questions or accepted any of the documents brought to the interview. That is because the IO has made a determination on the merits of the tourist visa long before the person enters the Embassy or Consulate. My MIL was asked no questions and told to have a nice trip. Passport with visa will be sent via courier and he handed her that information. Five minutes tops. The person applying for the visa needs to show to the IO that they will return to their home country. If the evidence submitted does not do that, then why would the IO waste his/her time asking questions?

Good luck,

Dave

Yeah, that happened to someone I know. Her interview lasted less than a minute. She was not asked any questions and got denied right away.

Speaking only in regards to the USEM Manila, there isn't any evidence one can submit in advance of the embassy interview. The only thing that is submitted (electronically filled out, signed and sent) is the DS-160. I'm unaware where one can indicate on that form such and convince the IO that they will return.

I've been unable to locate or find mention on the embassy website how one is to provide "evidence" to convince the IO of their intent to return to their country. One must show "Evidence of Ties" but doesn't mention a tangible way to do so.

For the OP:

MIL's second attempt. Documents brought, documents not requested.

Q/ What is the purpose of your visit?

A/ To visit my daughter and three grandchildren.

Q/ Who filled out your application?

A/ I did, with the assistance of my second daughter.

Q/ How long will you stay?

A/ One month.

Q/ Why will you stay one month when your application requests three?

A/ With consideration, one month would be an adequate amount.

Q/ Who will pay for your visit?

A/ I will, and if necessary my daughter will assist.

Q/ Are you retired?

A/ Yes.

Q/ When did you retire?

A/ 2012.

sorry, but no applicant who was denied was asked zero questions....that is pure nonsense....any of you ever witnessed this event first hand? I thought not.

COs have to put notes into their database as to why they denied a visa application, based on the questions they asked...what, are they going to write, "asked no questions but applicant did not convince me he/she will return.."./..oh that would go over well with the CO's boss...

these tall tales of applicants being denied without a single question being asked are nothing more than fairy tales, designed to elicit support for the poster's relative who was denied, to take any blame (if it exists) away from the applicant and try to stick it on the CO....

denials without questions do not happen....period....

questions being asked are often designed to weigh the applicant's credibility...COs might be looking for consistency (or lack of it), evasiveness, or other 'tells' that suggest the entire story is not being revealed for some reason...and if the applicant is unwilling to be truthful, well, they will have a tough time establishing their credibility.....and if they don't, then their application will be denied...

there are no magic answers to questions....because a good CO will be monitoring body language as well as the verbal responses (which is why that nonsense about no questions being asked of an applicant is so laughable)....people tip their hand quite often...in surprisingly subtle ways....and attempting to memorize answers to certain key questions will comes across like sounding robotic...again, which will work against the applicant....same for trying to say something you want (think) the CO to believe....it is more than apparent when desperate applicants try this tactic.
