My husband applied for an AOS for me on April 15th. I have an F1 visa. We are planning to go back to Europe to visit my sick grandma at the end of August and are planning to have a ceremony there because she could not come to the US because of her sickness. However, it seems that the AP is completely backlogged. I called at the beginning of July and they were processing April 12th, now they are processing March 16th... I am pretty desperate and don't know if I'll be able to travel at all this year. I have been unable to go see my grandma for over 7 months now, and the wait is really long.

I know that traveling without an AP would be really really really messy, but if the AP is never coming and the GC process can take up to two years, it really doesn't seem livable. Is there a way to cancel "amicably" a GC application to be able to travel?

I see a lot of people who applied after us got EADs already and I don't understand what could be delaying our application so much. Our interview is coming up in a couple days.

If anyone else is waiting for APs or just got them from NBC, let me know.

AOS timeline

April 15th - I131, I765 filed,I130, I485 filed

April 20th - I485, I131, I765 filed,I130 acceptance

May 15th -biometrics

June 29 - interview notice mailed for July 30th

July 28th - still no AP or EAD in sight

There is no such thing as an AP backlog. You must have been reading in the wrong place. Your AP should have been approved in the last few weeks.

If your interview is in a few days, then you will probably be approved for a GC then. Then no worries.

In the meantime, just in case you aren't approved on the spot, call and ask for a service request on the AP. It is just a bit past due.

So I called the customer center and they told me they were processing April 12th at the beginning of July. Today they were processing March 16th, so they are going backward, which is not a good sign.

I also hear about a lot of people who have to wait several months after the interview to get any approval/news, so i definitely cannot count on direct approval.

We have an info pass appointment for the beginning of August.

Nope, you talked to the misinformation line. The people who answer the phone don't even work for USCIS, they are call center workers who are subcontractors. They must have looked up the wrong thing, because that is just not true.

Actually, wait a minute, why does your timeline say that you filed I-130 and I-131 and I-765 on April 15, and I-485 on April 18?

If that is true, then you don't have any EAD or AP pending right now because you filed incorrectly.

If you filed EAD and AP before you filed the I-485 then you don't have a pending case at all.

everything was sent in the same envelope and I received a notice and number for each form. Is there a reason to believe they would have been filed separately from the dates?

As you list it in your signature, yes.

But if you actually did it all at the same time, then you did it right.

You can call for service request on the EAD and AP.
