Accidentally signed back of money order!

I accidentally signed my name on the back of the money order for my I-485, has anyone had this experience or know how strict they are on this? I know some people say just cross it out but I don't know if that would work in this situation. Thanks everyone

You can't cross out things on a check. Cash it and buy another one. And this time, DON'T sign the back.

My bank won't let me cash it, I'd have to wait a few weeks to get the money back from WU..has anyone done this or heard of someone that has?? What was the outcome?? Thanks!!!

No personal knowledge, but they should still be able to endorse and cash the money order. Ask WU to be sure, or ask them if they would be willing to void that money order and replace it with a new one. Given that the payee usually has to sign (endorse) the back, I can't imagine good things will happen if you have already endorsed it and then scribble it out.

I'll rephrase: the safest thing to do would be to get a new money order. If you want to roll the dice then sure, send it in and see what happens, but be prepared for it to be returned to you and you be out a couple of weeks as a result.

Wait, you already made it out to USCIS? And signed your name on the back?

Sorry I misunderstood. I thought you made it out to yourself by mistake and signed the back. If it's payable to USCIS, your bank won't cash it.

Your ONLY choice is to contact WU and get them to cancel it and issue a refund. It may take some time though, like you said. Or like the another member suggested, try to get them to replace it.

But DO NOT SEND in that one to USCIS, they will surely reject it and you will lose the postage you paid and then have to cancel it anyway.
