DV 2015 Canada Montreal interview

Hi guys,

Need some understanding as I don't know much about the US DV Lottery, I'm Canadian my wife just won DV2015 CN is AF92xx I have couple questions about the DV process:

1- sending the application ds260 sooner make any difference in the process timeline?

2- with that number when do you think we should expect an interview?

3- just wondering if the supporting documents can be in French since the interview will take place in Montreal according the the section below from the US DV website:

For (3) I would suggest translating it in English. The official languages of the government of Canada are BOTH english and french and not just french. So it would be easiest to just get a certified translation of the documents into english.

There are many companies online that do certified translations (many specifically mention they meet requirements for immigration). I paid $20 to get my diploma translated and it met all the requirements.

Thanks, that's what I was thinking as well can you recommend certified translator that you used?

I used these guys: http://www.rev.com/translation/certified but I just googled and found them so I don't know if there are other better ones. For me they just translated a 1 page diploma and did a good job and it was ready within 2 hours. I just took a picture of my diploma (too big to scan) and uploaded it, and they emailed back the translation.

FYI I read the Montreal us embassy website today - which s available in English and French. There are some instructions reacting to normal immigration that lists English translations for documents. However I think that relates to documents that will be sent on to USCIS - which is not true of DV cases.

However if you want a safe bet, translate to ENglish.

Update on the documents translation, I sent an email to the KCC and Montreal us consular and both replied by saying translate the documents in English, so I guess better do it.

Question about financial support, is there a form to fill out or is just providing employment letter and some bank statements?

It doesn't have to be stamped with a seal, it just has to be certified. The instructions you should read after you got selected has this section:

All documents not in English, or in the official language of the country in which application for a visa is being made, must be accompanied by certified translations. The translation must include a statement signed by the translator that states that the:

• Translation is accurate, and,

• Translator is competent to translate.

So a "certified" translation is one that includes the aforementioned statement from the translator certifying the accuracy and their competency.

Just as a FYI for whom wonder if the interview can be in French at the us consulate in Montreal the answer it's is no and they will not provide that service, you can bring an interpret:

This clause tells me that, for instance, diplomas in French do not need to be translated because French is an official language in Canada where the interview will take place.

It is embassy specific though. There are some other countries (I think Venezuela is one example) where they only accept English and not official language of the country. In my country we have more than one official language, including English, but they only accept English. Bottom line is: if the embassy tells you bring English translations, bring them.

DVer, we have all our documents in French and as I mentioned before I sent an email to both KCC and Montreal consulate about having to bring our supporting documents in French (as it is one of the official language in canada), but they both replied by saying translate them in English, so we'll be translating all our documents.

So I advice you to do the same and not take risks that may delay your file process.

As others are saying here, you should translate into English.

As to whether I've already gone to the Embassy: no, my interview will probably be this October or November. I just settled on an online translation company after reading the "if you've been selected" instructions, reading these forums, and other sources.

The translation does have a stamp (see picture), its just a printed one on the certification page. If you want to, you can find a certified translator in person and get a translation with a physical stamp, but most probably they will also just print something instead of stamping it.

Interesting stuff. So now I have to add Translation fees to my budget
