Earlier than 6 months of renewing green card

I need to renew it earlier because ii only have the summer break to renew my greencard because i am studying in a medical school abroad and i can't go back to the united states on august which is exactly 6'months from the expiry date. Will supporting documents and letter to uscis stating my reason will work to consider my early renewal for my green card? I see that in filing the I 90 form, there is a box that says "I have a prior edition of the Alien Registration Card, or I am applying to replace my current Permanent Resident Card for a reason that is not specified above." Thats why i am thinking of sending and writing a letter to uscis.

Don't do it.

You can only file when specified.

Your letter will not get you a result not available under the law.

Read up on all the threads where people apply early and think their explanations should excuse them from the rules. They all got denials for not following the rules.

Nope, not gonna happen.

I had to turn down several opportunities abroad while waiting for my wife to naturalize. I wasn't about to take those opportunities while she was a permanent resident and risk messing about with her status here in case we were gone for several years. You think the USCIS would have given a toss about our personal circumstances? All they know is their mindless, rigid rules. Don't expect an exception will be made for you. It won't be.

Since you are renewing your GC you could do it on-line. Please check out this website on the USCIS page for renewing the GC. You do realize that after you file the I-90 you will get a bio appointment for taking your photo and fingerprints and that it will be at the ACS location closest to you residence in the US. So you would have to make a trip to the US after filing. So why not file in November with the assumption that the bio appointment will be about 1 month after your application is received. Then there is the issue of leaving for medical school and the GC expires in February. you could make an INFOpass appointment before leaving for medical school to get an I-551 stamp in your passport so the airlines will allow you to board the airplane. Or you can check with the airlines to see if you can travel back to the US with an expired GC. It is the GC that is expiring and not your LPR status, but most airlines do not know the difference. Or you could have someone get your new GC and risk sending it to you at your overseas location.

Good luck,

Dave
