Do K-1 fiance kids (follow to join) need to interview at same time of fiance?

Me and my fiance are preparing right now for the Santo Domingo embassy (Dominican Republic [D.R.]) to receive and start to process our package sent from the NVC. She has 3 children (aged between 13 and 6) and I DID include them on the I129F. I do not have the current finances to pay for everyones medical, passports, visas, and AOS fees immediately, so our plan is that my fiance would come over and her children will stay with my fiance's mother in the D.R until my fiance can work legally and help make money towards bringing her children over. Whether we do this on the K-2 VISA (follow-to-join - which expires after a year from K-1 visa approval) ... OR the year passes and we have to apply for each child separately and go through the necessary processes (though my hope is that we would be able to financially bring them over within a year with our combined income).

My question concerning the interview process is ... during my fiance's interview, do the children need to interview as well? Will the fact that I mentioned the children on the petition, but did not bring them to the interview ... will that be bad? My assumption is that if we plan on doing a follow-to-join, we do not have to do anything regarding the children until we are ready for them to come over, and then we follow the necessary process for a K-2, do their medicals, passports, etc. - and then make interview dates for the children. Thoughts?

They will not need their medicals and interviews until they apply and pay the fee for the K-2 visa when they are ready.
