Hey everybody!

I'm really happy I found this website!

First let me introduce myself.

Me and my husband married 3 weeks ago (still have to get used to my new name!), after a long period of seeing eachother only once a month.

He's currently stationed in Germany, but is moving back to the states in 2 weeks to start college in Daytona Beach, FL. He has been working for the Air Force for 6 years and is now ready to start a new life.

I'll be graduating in July (nursing school) and we really can't wait to start our life together in the states.

BUT just like everybody else we're going through this horrible process.

We send in the I-130 papers 2 weeks ago and received a message the 21th of April that our papers have been send to Vermont for further processing.

All the timelines on this website made me a little sad, cause we were told that I would receive a visa within 4 months. =(

I know a lot of people want to know this, but can someone estimate how long it will take for me to be allowed to move to the states?

And will the process be a little quicker because he is/was in the Airforce? (If it is, I don't really think it's fair but I wouldn't mind it in this case!)

Welcome to VJ. Describing the process as "horrible" is an understatement! And there are so many variables (country of origin, visa type, etc) that it is nearly impossible to make any sense of the immigration system. While we started our I-130 on March 6, 2013 and were finally approved yesterday (China)--we have noticed that the timelines on VJ vary widely. We have seen others who have started much later and were approved/interviewed before we were.

We did find the VJ timelines extremely helpful and appeared (at least for China) to be fairly accurate. This feature is particularly helpful since you can narrow down the timelines to the country and visa type that is applicable for your circumstances. You can also use the sort features--then perform some basic calculations to get an better idea on timelines.

Good luck on your journey.

Should your processing get excessively delayed--I would suggest you have your husband contact his senator AND congressman to make an inquiry. Our 130 dragged along at USCIS until we wrote our senator. Then it suddenly started moving forward.

I really really really hope it's not going to take more than a year. That's just ridiculous.

On the website they say that the processing time is 5 months. And we called a emigration lawyer, and she told us that it would take an extra month or 2 to get the visa. But now that I read your messages, it might not be that fast.

This is really heartbreaking...

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

Hi there! Welcome to VJ, always nice to see other Holland members :)

The waiting time is absoluty horrible (I'm at 98 days now and still expecting months more), but I think in the end when you're together, it won't matter so much anymore. It will be a blip on the radar! But yes, I can imagine you're feeling down reading the timelines here.. I can definitely relate.

I wish you all the luck in the world though! I hope you're one of the lucky ones that gets approved really quick and astounds the other VJ'ers ;)
