No article, just me.

We are all aware of politicians trying to ban or tax sugar and sugar derivatives. Bloomberg being an example as well as Californian cities.

Just writing this because I feel that corporations have to a certain degree thrust sugar on the population and its gotten to the point where you don't have much choice left (such as bread or yogurt etc.). I like choice. I don't like government getting in the way of my choices. But it seems like corporations are starting to get in the way of our ability to choose now.

I'm not really for soda bans or end user taxes on sugar products. However, why not tax suppliers that load their food with HCFS and sugars and then take that money and…no not have the government spend it…use it to subsidize foods that have no sugars or HCFS?

My "free market" doesn't seem very free right now. <_<

They should remove HFCS from the food chain or at least reduce it greatly. A tax on that garbage would help bend the curve in favor of more natural sugar. I personally buy HFCS free products when and where available but the choices are severely limited when trying to avoid HFCS.

The nutritional guidelines with the food pyramid emphasizing carbohydrates over fats and proteins has created a generation where one in five has developed type-II diabetes, and the number may grow to four in five for the youngest generation. So, yeah, sugar is worse than tobacco healthwise and even more addictive.

I agree. Some kind of disincentive (tax) or an incentive to encourage using less sugar. It's cheap filler thanks to corn subsidies.

Current nutritional guidelines and standards are archaic. I see this in the hospital - doctors prescribe the type of diet for each patient (regular, carb-restricted, low sodium, etc.) but the dietitian along with our cafeteria makes no distinction between the types of carbs. It's insane.
