I will be three years here in the US. I want my Mom be here apparently, i will still need to have my US citizenship before I can petition her here. She is 74 yrs old. I am her only daughter, the only person who's taking care of here is her second cousin but sad to say her cousin will be going back to Bacolod to take care of her spouse. Please advise on what to do and what are the requirements to have my Mom get her tourist visa.

She might not be approve with the Tourist Visa because of the ffg.:

1. I am the only daughter and now here in the US, The USEM might think that she will not be back in the Philippine if the will approve her of the tourist visa

2. My mom doesn't have bank accounts or any assets. We will just be inviting her to come with us but will shoulder everything. I don' think that USEM will allow her to come with us. We don't have any intention to have her be one of the illegal staying here in the US.

I really want here to be with us, but the dilemma of declining the tourist visa keeps on bugging me.

Any suggestions / advise wil be gladly appreciated.

Thank you

At her age, high probability she'd be asked for proof of insurance even on tourist visa. Are you ready to pay for that?

Hi,

There is no advice or suggestions that will change your mom's circumstances.

All she can do is apply based on her circumstances.

Best of luck.

Quite slim. My wife's grandmother was refused 8 times but got a multiple entry for 10 years on her 9th try lol she really just wanted to visit relatives in US. The system got stricter and stricter over time because of others who overstayed. Well, funny story, my wife's grandma was approved when she was 81 years old on her ninth try when the consul told her that she'll be given a 10 year mulltiple entry, she threw some kind of a fit and told the woman if she thinks she'll be alive in 10 years still lol she's had the visa for four years now and had visited the US two times. There are strict rules and we all know that strong ties should really be evidenced but with USEM manila..some times I think applying for a tourist visa's the same as russian roulette lol

Just try. Good luck!

I don't like being a stick in the mud, but I think there should be some "buyer beware" advice.

Have you talk this over with your husband?

Do you know what you will do, what are the processes and what are the costs associated with a parent who passes away in the USA. Does she get buried in the US or in the Philippines. What are the costs? What is the red tape in sending her back to the Philippines?

What happens if she gets sick. Who is going to pay. YOU? Have you look into the costs for health insurance for a parent?

It might be a better Idea to make a trip to the Philippines more frequetly to visit then have her move to the USA.

Just something to think about.

This will be a hard sell to the State Dept to say the least. I am sure you can see that they will decide that the risk of her not returning home to Phil is sky high. Everything is here for her and nothing in Phil.

I think the only visa app that will fly here is family immigration. Maybe I am wrong and maybe an immigration lawyer will find some way I can't think of.

Good luck to you.

  • 2 months later...

My Mom just got her interview today 8AM Mla time. She was almost 2 hours inside the US Embassy. They got her passport, no paper that was given to her if needed more documents.

Questions were:

Q: Ano ang work mo before para mapatapos mo ang anak mo sa kolehiyo? (What was you work for before so you can send your daughter to college?)

My Mom: Meron akong business (I have a business)

Q: Ano ang trabaho mo ngayon? (What do you do now?)

My Mother: : Wala, ang anak ko ang nagpapadala ng pera sa akin. (None, my daughter sends me money)

An interpreter came:

Interpreter Question: Kelan mo balak bumalik ng Pilipinas? (When do you intend to go back to the Philippines?)

My Mother: End of March 2015

Interpereter: Oh, siguraduhin mo na babalik ka sa Marso 2015, at makakaalis ka kasi sayang ang visa mo. (Make sure that you will comeback by March 2015, don't waist your visa.

When I checked the Non Immigrant Status: It's on Administrative Processing "Your visa case is currently undergoing necessary administrative processing. This processing can take several weeks. Please follow any instructions provided by the Consular Officer at the time of your interview. If further information is needed, you will be contacted. If your visa application is approved after administrative processing, your passport will be delivered by our contracted courier to the address you specified when you booked your interview.

Hopefully, my mom can get her tourist visa :)
