Does being married to an alien prevent husband getting a top security clearance?

I think no.. I swear i thought my husband was just joking about this security clearance when hr first mentioned about this.

You will be advised to scrutinize your partner. And background check..

But you will still have the same security clearance. I think

Please advise, thank you in advance!

Inform your husband to ask his Security Officer/NCO/Manager. He/she will be able to provide the correct guidance on his security clearance.

They never asked my husband and he is definitely not going to remind them, but the answer is no. Being married to an alorn doesn't prevent from security clearance.

It most certainly CAN.

When the service member needs to re-apply for his clearance, it specifically asks whether or not you have contact with any foreign nationals. That would include a spouse (and their family and friends).

As far as I know, it depends on which country the foreign national is from and what level of concern that country is with regards to the US. Also - it depends on the level of clearance and/or job the service member is performing.

And to add... at a certain level of clearance - the service member is required to report ongoing contact with any foreign national (dating/living with/etc.) to their security office.

Failure to do so, and if it is uncovered (and a concern to security), could result in a loss of clearance.

Tread lightly... again, depends on your clearance and mos.

A security clearance is dependent on type of data you are accessing. Your spouse had to report your relationship then marriage to them. What is fussier is any special access that they also hold. Those have the right to restrict to race/religious groups At TS level he should have a regular reporting requirement of contact/relationship with any foreign nationals and if he hasn't done that as required then he should do so immediately.

This will not be over quickly. You will not enjoy this.

Thank you for everyone's generous advise. Yes I believe he submitted thorough information about my background and our marriage.

My husband is under such training that requires him to obtain TS clearance in the near future I believe. His current security level is not affected by our marriage thankfully however not sure about a TS since I am from China. He is going to ask about this next Monday however I do agree with couple of the posts here that it is related to which foreign country we are talking about.

It depends on the country your spouse is from. If it's a US friendly country - then no.

But my ex-husband's friend. who has an Iranian wife, was once denied clearance, because his mother-in-law was visiting Iran too frequently.

I have an inlaw that works at the Pentagon. She had to have all my details, as she associated with a 'foreign national", namely me. Last time I looked we were a friendly country as well.

I can explain it to you. But I can't understand it for you.

HI!

I don't think it will give any problems to obtains a TS Clearance if married to an alien. I am still in PI, waiting for our visa but my hubby got his TS Clearance about 2 weeks ago. The investigation was really tough! The background checking expanded as much as 10 years backwards. The questionnaire was very detailed. From bank accounts, mortgage or leases, previous employments, insurance, assets and liabilities, relationships past and present etc..etc.. If they got issues, they will contact and speak to him in person at the worksite and clarify things. I guess if you have nothing to worry about the background check will go smooth.

Yes it CAN. OP asked about the TOP SECRET security clearance. Confidential and Secret aren't an issue... Top Secret/SSBI on the other hand... hmmm... There are MOS that clearly say (even on the GO ARMY site) that you require a TS and you or your spouse cant have any foreign ties ''

  • Soldier and spouse must not have immediate family mem bers who reside in a country within whose boundaries physical or mental coercion is known to be common practice''

So getting the TS with foreign ties could be very tricky and COULD end up being denied. Though there ARE very good soldiers that were naturalized and hold the TS... so its different from case to case.
