I posted this over in UK Yankee but I've gotten no bites, so I'm posting it here too.

I started my online application (January 30, 2014) from the US for my Settlement--marriage visa for the UK using the https://www.visa4uk.fco.gov.uk/ website. My fiance is a UK Citizen, and I am the US Citizen. I was able to complete my application (I had to log back in a few times throughout) and sign the declaration, but when I go to book my biometrics appointment I get an error message (see attachment):

Error
An error occurred while processing your request

This could have been caused by your session timing out. If you have been logged out, please login again.

I'm starting to worry quite a bit because it seems that the site is down, which I'm aware is a common occurrence, but what irritates me is the error message I'm getting. It isn't helpful at all, and I don't know what to even make of it. I don't know what to do other than I guess wait for it to magically work? I've submitted a technical problem report with the UKBA site (http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/aboutus/contact/visa4uk-technical-enquiries/) and made a report with Worldbridge. I highly doubt that I'll hear back from either of them, and I don't really know what else to do.

Is anyone else out there having issues? What has been the experience the rest of you all have had with the new Visa4UK system? Should I be very worried? I just need something to keep my hope up. Sigh...

There is no need to use an external service. It isn't that complicated, and you can save yourself a lot of hassle.

Nich-Nick and Wheatly jointly created a great resource, and step by step guide which can be found in the attached link. I can't force you to do it yourself, but I would strongly advise you too. There may be the odd thing you will need clarification on, but that is what this forum does, normally very quickly. I work for the passport office, and we get about 300 calls a week from people who have used external websites, who then have to pay twice, because their fees don't represent the application costs, just their filing fees. Please be careful.

Sorry for multiple posts, it wont let me edit my post. I looked at the website and it is indeed down. This isn't out of the ordinary for a beta site, as they are often applying feedback recieved to make the product better, and make less mistakes in the future. I would be amazed if the site was still down come Sunday Evening/Monday Morning

Right, yeah, I'm a US Citizen applying for a UK visa to get married in the UK. It's supposedly a much quicker process than waiting for the K-1 to get processed here in the US for him. I've read it only takes about 15 days to get your visa using the expedited process for the UK, and I was completely banking on that to happen but now I'm worried I'll have to change my flight because the site is down. OF ALL THINGS!! It's so frustrating because we've done so much work to this point that I thought this would be the easy bit! Go online, fill in the application, go get my fingerprints done, send it all off--bam.

Ugh. It's been down or whatever since Jan 30th when I first tried applying so this is now the 3rd day of trying to book an appointment. It seems hopeless that it will ever actually work.

I've tried using different browsers--the ones they recommend but it still doesn't work. It clearly must be an issue with the server on their end, but it'd be nice if they put up a little note saying "Hey, we're aware of this issue, it'll be fixed soon" instead of this void of confusing non-information.

Please, someone tell me that this has happened to them and that it will eventually work for me.

If you just wanted to get married, then the Brit doesn't need a K1 to get married in the US. The K1 is for people who want to marry and then *stay* in the US.

We want to have the option to live permanently either place, but the quickest route to doing this is for me to get a visa to get married in the UK because at least then we don't have to be apart while his I-130 is processing for the US when we decide to do that.

Does that make it clearer?

You might need to check all the details better to work out your plans. To obtain permanent settlement in the UK takes 5 years with income requirements to meet 3 times. To move to the US first makes it harder to return to the UK because of job requirements required of the UK resident before the American spouse can join him.

If you get a greencard in the US, it can be voided if you move back to the UK. Get his US Citizenship, after 3 years a greencard holder, and you can come and go freely.

You don't need a fiancé visa k1 just to marry. You can marry on VWP with only his passport as ID. Then you could start the I-130

If you do the UK marriage or US marriage and reside legally at least 6 months in the UK, you can file the I-130 in London for a much faster US visa processing time.

So many options, but 8-9 years to get "permanent" in both places.

I think I read somewhere that it can be tricky to do the i-130/adjustment of status/whatever it is if someone comes over on the VWP and gets married. Like, you have to prove it wasn't your intention to get married in the first place because you should've had a K-1 then.

I hadn't heard about the greencard being voided if he returns to the UK. I guess the main issue for us is that he's disabled, and I'm his primary carer so being together is actually a big deal. In the scope of things, we want to live in the US so we were planning on getting married in the UK then in 6 months DCF in London. I was just looking at the wait times for US visas and determined that we would likely be in the UK for awhile before we got to that point. But of course, the longer I'm in the UK, the harder it is for me to claim US Residency.

Thanks for the ideas!

Not hard really because you can show INTENT to domicile...plans to move back.

I wasn't suggesting marry on VWP and staying. He could marry without a visa and go home. But it sounds like it is easier for you to travel to him, even if it requires you to get a visa to marry.

Well that's basically what we're trying to do. He can't travel alone, so I took the trek back over to the US to apply for a visa to get married in the UK. At least then we could be together (albeit after another filing of documents, and yet another fee) without interruption and could get together some resemblance of a normal life.

As an update, the Book Appointment site seems to still be down as I'm still getting the same error message today. Sigh. I have made an appointment at a USCIS center via INFOPASS on my own, so if it isn't resolved by then maybe that would be some help. I don't know.

As an update, the Book Appointment site seems to still be down as I'm still getting the same error message today. Sigh. I have made an appointment at a USCIS center via INFOPASS on my own, so if it isn't resolved by then maybe that would be some help. I don't know.

Don't think so. A US government office can't help you with a UK government website. You have no application in to USCIS which is what INFOPASS is for. Shouldn't you be calling the UK for answers? Or your closest British embassy in the States?
