Considering that they are funded by applicants ... I don't think they would be affected (I may be wrong), but from what I've heard already, the Senate has already approved to take action to prevent shutdown. Now, if they can get Obama to sign it before October 1st is a different story.

I read that the USCIS is not affected, but the visa center would be. And they would not be issuing any type of visas at the embassy. But its not like the USCIS is cranking them out anyway .... so it will be business as usual for all of us who are waiting on an approval.

I remember there was a similar problem like this happened before and had discuss with my fiance. He is in the military so anything related about budget cut it would going to affect his paycheck. But he told me, there might be delay for paycheck but government would never shutdown their agencies. He was right, Obama signed the bill before the deadline. Read the link below:

I think the politicians just love play games to make suffer another people. I might be wrong, but it would never going to happen. The government will never shutdown their agencies.

When I spoke to NVC last they are contractors so doesnt effect them. DOS said that they have not been preparing for a shut down, and also said that consulates abroad will remain open. Unfortunately I have no idea how this will effect the service centers who process the initial applications. So if you at least have your NAO2 then it hopefully will not effect us

In 1995 when the government shutdown about 1/5 of the Federal contracts were put on hold and lots of contract employees were furloughed without pay. Contracts for goods usually continue where contracts for services usually are shut down quicker. State will focus their attention to protecting posts and personnel overseas. Processing of visa applications will likely be very low on the priority list.

Maybe you and your fiance are too young to remember when the Federal government shut down in 1995 and again in 1996.

Hopefully it won't happen but please don't believe it can't happen.

If you are interested, read this article from the Washington Post halloween.gifcry.gif : it outlines what services will be effected if there will be a government shutdown.

I did ask him. And I asked him again today. He said it probably happened but he could not recall when since he always overseas back then. He's been in the military for 23 years and probably he could not remember because he doesn't care about politics. The reason why he speaks up because I asked him. So blame on me for the mistake.

If the government shut down in a week the " president " will select with offices will running in very low staff . however because usics is receiving from the applicant money is possible that with very low staff continuing running without reach the total stop
Embassy around the world will be functioning but not processing visas, in one way or another everyone will be affected, some areas more that others but the bottom line is for everyone in this visa journey forum a real bad time full of delays. we going to get screw by the same politicians we vote and represent us in the congress of united states of America when the next election comes i know what to do...

How Long the Shutdown will last?

Depends on how long it takes for them to agree. I believe one lasted a week the other lasted a bit longer. But if they can't be big boys and girls and play nice...we all suffer, and they still get PAID!!

It was very useful Thank you!!
