For NVC, you either send the original or certified copy of civil documents (birth, marriage).

This is the part I don't really understand and confuse from NVC. Under immigration tab of their main page, for civil documents could be either (original or certified copies listed in bold on top of the page) but than you click through those FAQ, they told you to check your local embassy for further info what to submit with IV package, and I did, it said different than what main page read. You must submit (original and certified copies in bold letter), all original will be return at the time of interview.

IMMIGRANT VISA APPLICANT DOCUMENT REQUIREMENTS

All documents not written in English, or in the official language of the country in which application for a visa is being made, must be accompanied by certified English translations and submitted to the National Visa Center. The translation must include a statement signed by the translator stating that the translation is accurate and the translator is competent to translate.

1. Visa Application Fee:

 For immediate relative and family-based visas: $230/person;

 For employment-based visas: $405/person.

 For other Immigrant visas (I-360 and special IVs): $220/person

2. Visa Photo: Two (2) full face color photographs for each applicant. Write your name and date of birth on the back of each of your photos. You may find more information on page 5 for photo specifications and a list of photo shops.

3. Forms DS-230 Part I & II: Complete in English the Forms DS-230 Part I & II for each applicant listed in the appointment letter. You can also download the forms at http://travel.state.gov/visa/forms/forms_1342.html. While completing the forms, please note:

 For item 13 of DS-230 I, provide the address and phone number(s) where you are actually residing, not addresses once used for household registration;

 Sign all pages except page 4 of the form DS-230 Part II; you will have to sign this page in the presence of consular officer on your interview date.

4. Passport: Copy of biographic data page. The passport must have at least an eight month validity beyond the date of visa issuance. One photocopy is required for each applicant, including children who are listed in their parents’ passport.

5. Applicant’s Birth Certificate: Copy and original. If you or any children were adopted, you must submit an official adoption decree.

6. Petitioner’s Birth Certificate: Copy and original. In case you do not have the petitioner’s birth certificate, the officer will review the case and provide guidance at the interview.

7. Marital Status Documents:

 Copy and original: Marriage Certificate if you are married.

 Copy and original: Applicant’s evidence of the legal termination of any prior marriages: Divorce Decree or Death Certificate of ex-spouse, if applicable. Please arrange in chronological order.

 Copy and original: Petitioner’s evidence of the legal termination of any prior marriages: Divorce Decree or Death Certificate of ex-spouse, if applicable. Please arrange in chronological order.

Thank you Saylin! As I have read, my wife can ask for all the original documents back after the interview so I will be sending in all originals except for her birth certificate with is certified (and attested).

The guide is a lifesaver (as I'm sure many people have stated already).

Include photocopies as well of the birth and marriage certificates. No need to specifically request the originals/certified copies back as they'll provide them back automatically.

readerchoice - go by what's in the NVC urls. Many times, when an embassy IV unit posts a P3 document of instructions - it's for DCF and not NVC.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
Ya know, you can find the answer to your question with the advanced search tool, when using a PC? Ditch the handphone, come back later on a PC, and try again.

I've understand what you're saying but if you read at the bottom of the link http://travel.state..../info_3190.html, it does say........

Review any additional requirements given in the U.S. Embassy/Consulate General-specific information.

And by that mean for me at least they required both copy & original as listed above for civil documents before submitting to NVC.

you can send off an email to the Embassy/consulate IV unit, ask them this question, specifically.

Your timeline, over at http://www.visajourney.com/timeline/profile.php?id=65613 , says Armenia. Is that the right country for this interview ?

This is so weird -- I just read the post by 'readerschoice' (a few post above) and I decided to check by wife's country's embassy requirements...

http://photos.state.gov/libraries/bangladesh/275802/immigrant-visas/Interview%20checklist%20for%20IV%20applicants.pdf

According to above -- it asks to BRING IN the originals during the interview. I assume this is either incorrect or applies in another situation? -- because I am mailing all the originals in with the packet.

USCIS

08/09/2012- Filed I-130 through USPS

08/13/2012- USPS confirmed delivery

08/13/2012- USCIS confirmed receipt of I-130

10/25/2012- Called USCIS to obtain case # (Did not receive NOA1 in mail)

03/18/2013- NOA 2: APPROVED (221 Days)

That's why this line come in........

Review any additional requirements given in the U.S. Embassy/Consulate General-specific information.

Specific information to specific country. At least for me I follow what it said on the specific Embassy request instead of generic statement on their main page. It because there's few more things on the list of "specific..." isn't on the generic page at least for me.

According to another VJ member quote.......

" DCF is only available if the US citizen has resided abroad legally for 6 months or more, and if there is a USCIS office in the country they live. ".

I'm not sure DCF still applied to others country as of now instead of sending your civil document to NVC at Portmouth, NH. regardless of situation above quoted by another member.

By reading on the link I provided above there isn't anything mention in that url in regards or specific to only DCF filer.
