Marriage Certificate problem!! FNU

Hi everyone,

for people from Afghanistan, the U.S. consulate uses FNU for first name, and then their first name for Surname. Thus, technically there is only ONE name on the visa. This is how it works in Afghanistan, since there are no surnames used in the country.

Now for the marriage certificate in the state of California, they wont accept FNU. And they want to leave the first name blank, and only one name on the certificate. I believe this can cause problems down the line.

Has anyone who also has a FNU on visa had this problem when obtaining a marriage certificate.

Basically, anyone from a country using FNU on the visa, what name did you guys use on the marriage certificate for a male fiance.

Any advice and feedback would be appreciated!
