You don't need to have specific travel plans, but the point of having an AP is to have the authorization for traveling abroad in case you have an emergency or you need to travel for whatever reason. Maybe by when you travel to Australia, you already have your GC approved but it's always good to have your AP just in case

Although the example form for the I-131 does have a specific date.
It would make me feel better about submitting the form with 'to be determined' in the date field if other people can confirm that is what they did and they were successful without delays in processing due to this.

Also, if you are not sure if you will need 2 trips ,then also check "more than 1 trips" (I did that too).
If you still have doubts, you can check others that had the same question.
