I am looking for some information on this topic. I am very familiar with K1 visa and all the rules if the Jamaican citizen wanted to come to America, but I need more info on what happens if the marriage takes place in Jamaica. Any info is much appreciated, but below are some of my specific questions...

- Does marrying a Jamaican in Jamaica change the length of time the US citizen can stay in Jamaica? Currently 6 months is the limit.

- Does marrying a Jamaican in Jamaica make it legal for the US citizen to work or open a business in Jamaica?

- If the couple decides they want to live in the USA is there any limit of time, after marrying, in which to file for the spouse visa(CR-1)?

- If the couple decides to reside in Jamaica does the US citizen have to obtain Jamaican citizenship and if so, how would that affect their US citizenship?

Any feedback would be great!! Thank You!!

Moved from IR-1/CR-1 Process & Procedures to Caribbean regional forum; majority of OP's questions are regarding Jamaican law.

Country: Jamaica
Timeline

You can establish a business in Jamaica if you have a work permit or is a Jamaican Citizen.

Visit pica.gov.jm for information on how to become a Jamaican citizen through marriage. I think the process takes about 1 year. The Jamaica Information Services website should also have information.

Marrying a Jamaican does not automatically change the length of time you can stay in the country.

When U get marry in Jamaica U can file for whatever direction you want to go in, if you want to work in Jamaica your spouse would go with you to Min. of Foreign affairs & get requirement info for work permit (not hard to get am told). USCs just visiting can stay up to 6 mths with no visa, however they cannot work without a permit. (JAs have gotten very savvy now in the workplaces & will report to immigration if they think one has no permit)due to the influx of foreigners in our workforce & a steady stream of JAs deported back here. To apply for citizen-ship here You will need to fill application US$280 (if not increased) a copy of spouse JA PP, police record from US , pp photos and wait , it can be long, but you will never have to worry about immigration kicking in your door. The USC can file for JA spouse whenever they want, JA marriage is legit worldwide.
