PASSPORT EXPIRY GUID

My wife is USC,she applied i130 as a spouse on 2 April ,still waiting for approval ,my question is that my passport will expire on 30 march 2013,should i go for renewal or wait for interview .What US laws says about this .Me from Pakistan .

You should get your passport renewed. Islamabad embassy may place you in Administrative Processing and your passport will expire.

what about my old passport as i send copies of old passport ,when i will appear for interview in embassy ,i will have 2 passports.Do u think that new passport will not create any problem for me .Plz help me

you should go and get your new passport ASAP. I had this same problem. If your case is still in USCIS, you can send new passport copy to them, if its in NVC then send new copy to NVC and If its already completed and you are waiting for your interview, just take it to interview as you wont get visa as your passport will expire in less than six months.

Hi You should get a new passport . No you don't have to worry about having 2 passports. Because millions of people have more than one passports. As long as you can tell them that you renewed your passport ahead of time because it was less than six months left then your all Good. :-)

And another thing is that you can't renew your passport if it has more than 6 months left so wait a bit and then renew it.

The new passport will have your old passport number printed on it as well.

Thanks to all for response .USCIS approved my case on 17SEP so now in NVC.Expected date of my interview will be in NOVEMBER or DECEMBER,so you guys suggest me to renew my passport after OCTOBER and should send copy of new passport to NVC.

My wife is USC,she applied i130 as a spouse on 2 April ,my case approved and case no assigned by NVC .My question is that my passport will expire on 30 march 2013,should i go for renewal or wait for interview.Problem is that i have sent copies of this passport and when i will renew my passport they might cancel my old 1 and then i will have 2 passport .What US laws says about this .Me from Pakistan .

A passport should be valid for 6 months from interview date (as your visa will be valid for that long, usually) so yes, apply for a new one.

Me: Irish/ Swiss citizen, and now naturalised US citizen. Husband: USC; twin babies born Feb 08 in Ireland and a daughter in Feb 2010 in Arkansas who are all joint Irish/ USC. Did DCF (IR1) in 6 weeks via the Dublin, Ireland embassy and now living in Arkansas.

Means there will b no problem or no need to send copies of new passport to NVC.Just go for interview with both passports that will be valid?
