Anyone see anything negative with doing it that way? Is it allowed?

Of course it's allowed. You'd need a vacation after such a long wait anyways. I'm sure the port of entry would allow you to immigrate at Hawaii and then flying to Florida is as simple as hopping the next plane.

Yep. Not a problem at all. Just make sure once in the U.S. she doesn't leave the U.S. without advance parole or a green card. That's awesome! My wife will be so excited when I broach the subject of stopping off in Hawaii for a few days. :-) It will make the process of getting from Thailand to Florida much more relaxing.

DIsregard the underlined above. I just noticed she is CR-1/IR-1. She'll get an I-551 stamp that's good for a year at POE, which is the equvalent of a green card.Yep. Not a problem at all. Just make sure once in the U.S. she doesn't leave the U.S. without
advance paroleor agreen card.

Given that Thailand to Florida is an incredibly long flight (more so when traveling with a 1-year-old), I was thinking it would be a good idea to stop off in Hawaii for a few days when my wife gets her visa before continuing on. This would give us a little break in the long flights and we can enjoy Hawaii for a bit. Also, we wouldn't have to worry about how long it would take to get through immigration in order to make a connecting flight. And then, when we fly from Hawaii to Florida, we won't have to go through immigration again.
Anyone see anything negative with doing it that way? Is it allowed?
as long as the airport in Hawaii is a port of entry then I don’t see why you can’t do that... my friend had to change all her plans around because the airport they were flying into was not considered a port of entry airport... just an fyi
have a wonderful time!!!!!!!! you have a lucky wife =) .........

She'll get an I-551 stamp that's good for a year at POE, which is the equvalent of a green card.
What she will receive from CBP is a standard admission stamp on the page of her passport next to the visa itself. It is the combination of the visa and the admission stamp that is the temporary green card. CBP is no longer placing special I-551 stamps in passports in this instance.

You're right. I went and back and looked and it says this at the bottom of her visa:What she will receive from CBP is a standard admission stamp on the page of her passport next to the visa itself. It is the combination of the visa and the admission stamp that is the temporary green card. CBP is no longer placing special I-551 stamps in passports in this instance.
"UPON ENDORSEMENT SERVES AS TEMPORARY I-551 EVIDENCING PERMANENT RESIDENCY FOR 1 YEAR"
I guess the result is the same. Still have the equivalent of a 1 year green card.

Ya know, you can find the answer to your question with the advanced search tool, when using a PC? Ditch the handphone, come back later on a PC, and try again.

yes its a USA POE and its allowed and Hawaii is one of the easiest and fastest POE you can do, considering all the tourists we have visit, here the average is around no more than 20-30 mins in and out

I know Hawaii has multiple airports...does it matter which one we fly into, or do all international flights to Hawaii go to the same one?

To be sure, you can always look on the CBP website, call CBP at the location you intend to land, and then let them know that your wife is immigrating and you need to make sure she can immigrate at that port of entry.Glad to know it's a point of entry. I will start looking into nice hotels we can stay in and some fun activities we can do (where it won't be a problem to have our son with us). I'm thinking 4 or 5 days in Hawaii will be a good little vacation.

The link above shows you all of Hawaii's ports of entry.
